1993 BMW 325is, 2.5lit Vanos engine , 144,000 on chassis only 4,000mi on rebuild engine.
Engine produces around 215 hp and around 200lb of torque
Complete professional head rebuild, 4000mi back
Very clean non-smokers car
18 button on board computer
16" bmw rims
Bavarian lowering springs, Bilisteing shocks
Bavarian chip,
Euro headlights
newer clutch
BMW runs really strong , only 4,000mi on rebuild engine.
Still running on stock exhaust and stock intake, with those two things upgraded car should be even faster.
15.02 91 mph 1/4 mi, my first time at track. Should easily do around 14.7 to 14.5 with better driving.
pictures , dyno sheets and some videos are here http://laptop-works.com/325is

Why was the engine rebuilt?
Because I misshifted and caused valves to hit pistons and bend the valves.

How many miles on the old engine? Whats the year? Has the cooling system been worked on? Hows the suspension? Is the trans smooth? Auto or manual?
bimeralex
06-26-2006, 06:51 PM
It is manual. Had a new clutch in 1999.
New transmision mounts when engine was rebuild.
144,000 miles on chassis and engine before rebuild.
Suspension is upgraded, Baverian lowering springs and Biliestain perfomance shocks.
5 spd manual transmision works perfect as well as the engine.
car is 1993 with a Vanos(vtech) system

1993 BMW 325is, 2.5lit Vanos engine(same as V-tech in Hondas) , 144,000 on chassis only 4,000mi on rebuild engine.
Not bashing, but Vanos isn't the same as VTEC in Hondas.
VTEC= Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control
V-Tech=Phone Manufacturer
Vanos=Variable Nockenwellen Steuerung
"One thing that separates the BMW variable timing from what Honda developed is that VANOS provides stepless adjustments to the valve timing throughout a rpm regime to provide optimum timing at all engine speeds within that regime. Honda's VTEC triggers a single step change at in the timing when the engine speed reaches a preset rpm (this rpm occurs near high rpm ranges)."
BMW VANOS - Varies intake and exhaust timing by rotating the camshaft in relation to the gear.
Honda VTEC - Varies intake, duration, and lift by using two different sets of cam lobes.
V-Tech - VTech is one of the world's largest suppliers of corded and cordless telephones and a leading supplier of electronic learning products. It also provides highly sought-after contract manufacturing services. Founded in 1976, the Group's mission is to be the most cost effective designer and manufacturer of innovative, high quality consumer electronics products and to distribute them to markets worldwide in the most efficient manner.
Hope you can understand the differences between VTEC, V-Tech, and Vanos so NOW you can finally stop using any of them as a selling point for your car because WE KNOW THAT 93+ BMW 3 SERIES HAVE VANOS
And the headlights...they're not euro...they're EBay.
Good luck with the sale. The car is quick for a 325, but explanation and selling points on this board are different than on Autotrader or a local board. We actually know about cars around here...
Now that the constructive criticism has been put aside, I'll offer some advise for a quicker and easier sale on this board.
1. The grills. For the majority of the people on here they absoluetly have to go. I would suggest what most members do and that is take them off, sand them down with some 300 grit followed by some 600 then some 1200 grit sandpaper. Get bumper paint and paint them black, either flat or semi gloss... The same can be done for the moulding however that is a lot more work than you probably want to do.
2. The headlights, they are probably hurting you more than helping. I would replace with stock headlights and sell those on EBay where they originally came from.
3. Pictures are worth 1000 words. Take some better pics, add a border even and make sure you have some flattering shots. Clean the car prior to picture taking, and use good lighting. It will create instant interest and let others see what the car has the possibility of looking like, not what it looks like now without being cleaned for 3 months and driven through mud.
4. Information. Tell us EVERYTHING. Tell us in the original post why the head was rebuilt. Tell us how much tread is left on the tires. Tell us about the mods. How much has it been dropped, when was the clutch replaced and with stock or performance. All these things give us a better idea of the car and its history, and giving them to us without having to ask or question why the head was rebuilt builds trust between a potential buyer and yourself. The second someone has doubt or can't figure out why you were hiding something is the second they start thinking about every possible thing that's wrong with the car and you're not telling them. I knew about the misshifting from your previous threads, but others don't.
5. Justify the price. People online, this board especially, want a good deal on everything. Tell us why the car is worth $6500 (again, go back to #5) and not the $4000 it appears to be worth. The engine is a plus, but again if we have to badger the information out of you on why something was done to the car people start having doubts.
These are just opinions. Some people might like the headlights and/or grills, but you wont find many on here. The purpose of a for sale ad is to generate the most interest possible to the audience you are attempting to sell to. You wouldn't go in to a prodominantly caucasian neighborhood selling Crunk® Juice or 22" Spinners, so doing the same thing on here with the grills and headlights isn't going to help.

Honda
If you mean who originally came up with the idea of Variable Valve Timing? GM did. They were concerned with lower emissions and toyed with the idea of variying the timing. Unfortunetely for them, they failed and abandoned the project.
Then along comes Fiat, which was the first working system:
"The first functional variable valve timing system, including variable lift, was developed at Fiat. Developed by Giovanni Torazza in the 1970s, the system used hydraulic pressure to vary the fulcrum of the cam followers. The hydraulic pressure changed according to engine speed and intake pressure. The typical opening variation was 37%."
After Fiat, Honda came in with the B16a1 motors that offered VTEC in Japan in the late 80's. It wasn't introduced to the US until 1991 in which the NSX's came equipped with it. I had a 91 CR-X w/ a B16a1 + N2o and that thing was awesome. I shouldn't have ever sold that thing, but when the idea of a turbo came along the CR-X got sold for an EF hatch w/ boost.
A year after, BMW introduced VANOS in 92 (For late 92 production and 93+ production modeled M50's).
