Looks like they bolted the cooler to the front bumper, but 200 hp Wow!!! I'm impressed.

Yeah... that intercooler looks pretty damn out of place...

I wonder how much boost you can safely run without it?

I dont think the FMIC looks to out of place. I would still make a custom bumper to make everything perfect though:cool:

Ummm..

One rock on the highway and the intercooler is shot.

I wonder if they could tuck that behind the front spoiler from the aero kit?? :dunno

Well guys, that's why the S has the hood w/ a scoop. No other place for a intercooler on that puppy.

I would still go for the S as the extra $3k gets you the supercharger w/ intercooler, Getrag 5 spd w/ proper compression pistons for forced induction, S aero package, and the 4 year warranty. For some additional $cratch you can get an intake ($200), exhaust ($500 - $1k) and engine management software ($300). This will take you VERY close to 200hp AND keep your warranty.

i seriously doubt that intake, exhaust, and an ECU will yield 37 hp, peak or otherwise

The Beastmaster

Did I say 37 hp? I just said the mods will take you VERY close to 200 hp. AND if you don't have a MINI, you wouldn't know that most of these cars are NOT putting out what the factory says. They are putting out a bit more than the "official" factory hp when computing drivetrain losses on a dyno run. Either that or the drivetrain is VERY efficient.

Yep, if you look at that chart the stock MINI dynoed at 125 corrected flywheel hp... and the factory claims 115 out of the box. I'm not sure what its like on the S, but I believe 125 is around the new accepted number for what the MC actually is packing :dunno

its the drifvetrain to some extent... same thing as in Z3s... the length of the driveshaft is a large piece of it (apparently)

So girls I go out with should be impressed at the efficiency of my drivetrain.

das it's FWD, can it be the same???

Also, Phil is right, one rock on the highway, or maybe parking too close to the curb, etc, and that's an expensive mistake....

Other than that, very cool results!! :buttrock

That turbo is cool, but unfortunately, I have a problem w/ hitting curbs w/ the front of my car and w/ my wheels (OUCH!).

Can the s/c be tweaked via smaller pulley for more boost? Safely? Easily?

Kyle K.

A smaller pulley can be bought... but I'm not sure of the price/ease of installation/reliability of the higher boost. :dunno

The Beastmaster

A smaller pulley is available, but there has been talk of the extra heat created as a result of overdriving the SC. Also, it has been discussed that the SC is running at 100% efficiency at 7k. So, I don't know if a smaller pulley will help the car or be a detriment.
