i know i know never let you 19year old girlfriend drive your car i know. but i did and she let my 86 325 4 door automatic over heat and she drove it all week over heating and now it stumbles and stutters and after it gets warm it blows tons of white smoke or steam out the tail pipe. it still cranks fine when its cold but it idles rough and it will sometimes die after it warms up. i dont know has this happensed to any body else and is it fixable without spending more than the car is worth.

If you got steam coming out the exhaust your getting moisture inside the engine. the head gasket is blown or the head warped and cracked. remove the head take it to a machine shop have it pressure checked and checked to make sure the heads deck is level. should be around 100 to 150 to do the check for resurfacing the head and pressure checking it that what my machinist charges me atleast. then you need to get a need head gasket. also take a straight edge when you take the head off and lay it all the way down the top edge of the block to see if your block warped. usually the head would warp or crack but you might have gotten lucky and just blown thegasket. Do a compression check and see what the results are. the pistons should have above 150 psi and be within 5% of eachother.

Sounds like a head gasket dood. Might need a new head if it's warped.
