I have some subs that i want to put into my 530i E34. Im wondering, can i maintain all my stock speakers and headunit and have a place install the subs, crossed over w/ it's own amp and everything? My friend said they can install a little switch to turn it on and off and up and down and stuff, is this possible? Thanks

sounds do-able.

Awesome, because i really only need more bass. The highs are great in my car, at least i think. I might end up throwing in an amp for the speakers, but that's later down the line.

That is 100% possible. It is damn near the basics of an aftermarket system.

I would strongly recommend a new HU, but what you want to do is do-able. Subs sounds 100x better with an up to date headunit.

So a Sub would sound bad w/o a HU? I mean i know that the aftermarket headunits have better quality but the BMW seems to be doing well. Is there a way that i can set it up to sound better(i.e. have an amp directly to the speakers?). I don't really want to spend much $ and i like the original HU.

Im not sure. I never hooked up my subs to the stock HU, I upgraded when I bought the subs. It may sound fine, but does anyone else know for sure?

I want to do the exact same thing with my 2003 E39. It has the navigation HU up front. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

My big question is: Does the head unit amplify at all before it gets to the big amp in the trunk, or is it a true line level when it leaves the HU? I've heard BMW had some head units that provided a slightly amplified signal that needed to be converted back to line level before you added an aftermarket amp.
