Hello everyone, I'm fairly new here but I figured I might as well go ahead and post about me and my car.
I'm new to the BMW world and my 98 M3 that I just got about 3 weeks ago is my first one. I've been living in NC for about 5 months. Before I left I picked up my M3 in New Jersey. Man it drove like a dream all the way home.
I'm moving out to San Jose CA as I got a full time job with the company I was interning with in NC. So I'm currently in my hometown in Kansas until Sunday when I will begin my 2nd half of my drive.
I have to say this has been the most fun car I've had, and makes these 20hour drives go by fast and comfortable.
Well its good to be here and just thought I'd say hi.
I'd post a few pics, but I don't have the correct permissions...

She's a silver 2door coupe. Got it with 78K on it...it kills me to put so many miles on it already...but I guess thats what cars are for, and I plan to keep her for a LONG time.

Have a good drive and don't get any speeding tickets. Insurance won't be that cheap in Cali. Congrats on the purchase though. They are great cars. My recommendations would be SEARCH the forums for common problems and things you should check on your car. Second, join BMWCCA. They do great auto-z events and track days. You also get a discount at the dealer for parts. Its only $40 a year and you get the Roundel mag. Enjoy your new M.

you should document your trip and take alot of pictures of your M3 at cool famous places along the way and post them. It would be interesting

Wyoming SUCKS! So driving along temp drops like 15 deg (F) and rains...then heats up, then cool, then heat....I think nothing of it. Then my tire blows :mad. The tow truck guy says it happens a lot because of the rapid temp changes...I had no idea. He said he gets called out multiple times a day. Mabey that was why all the locals drive so SLOW. After spinning around and rolling backwards into the dirt...I'm stuck in this little town waiting for some tires from SLC.
No major damage...just some paint damage to my back bumper and whatever the little skirt under it is called. Rim is fine and no one got hurt. It sucks, and this town sucks...but it could have been so much worse.

I guess if M3's are males...I better stop looking at it the way I do:devillook

Boy, this is kinda weird, Chaok. I just bought an e36 m3 in NC, and also just drove cross country to Portland, Oregon. Left NC on friday 5/27 and got to Portland on saturday (6/4). Took a lot of time sightseeing and visiting friends.
Car had 34.5k miles on it when i picked it up, now has 38K.
I also drove thru Wyoming. Unlike you though, i thought WY was really cool. Devil's Tower, Bighorn Mtns, and yellowstone, of course.
The M3 was a dream going thru the bighorns. Nice torque, very smooth.
I knew that the m3 was a great handling car, but i did not know that it was such a fantastic highway car.
By the way, I got 31 mpg at one leg of the trip. it was a lot of 45mph driving (thru the mtns) and no A/C. This was based upon manual calculations, not the car's computer. I was amazed that the car could do that well on gas.

Where in Kansas were you? Congrats on the purchase! A good road trip is a great way to become aquainted with a new car. Flew down to Houston, bought mine and drove back all in teh same day. Its the way to do things. :D

I'm from Salina. Went to K-State, did 1 semester of grad school in Hays until I got an internship in NC. Moving to Cali becuase I got a full time job for that company. I'm putting grad school off for at least a year. I got a few other things I need to do before I go back.
But I could see how Wyoming could be pretty nice, but here in the south west part of it...its dry and ugly. I don't see how anyone would ever want to live here...mabey I'm missing something.
Hopefully my tires get here today and I'll be in CA tonight. Not sure if I'll make it to San Jose, but it'll be close. This is such a fun car to drive. I couldn't think of a better car to take across the US.
I got to get my post count up so I can get some pics up :)

Hmmm... must be that Wyoming is better in the north than in the south. In the north is the Bighorn range and yellowstone. Also Jackson Hole for skiiing. All i was thinking when i drove thru there is "man i would love to live here!". Lotsa horses too.
I guess its greener than the south too, i suppose.
Too bad that you have to waste so much time in WY without seeing the really cool stuff (Bighorns and Ystone).
Whats even more ironic about this is that when i was driving thru Wyoming on wed/thurs of last week, I had a full size tire in my trunk (Michelin Pilot). if i could have predicted the future, i coulda dropped the tire off for you.
BTW, i did exactly what an earlier poster on this thread suggested: i bought a nikon d50 dslr and took a ton of pictures of the car in interesting places as i traveled across the country. 1100 pictures still on my camera (2G card) just waiting to be downloaded. When i started the journey in NC, the car had just been washed. As the pictures progress from east to west, you can see the car getting dirtier and dirtier. It was a slime ball by the time i got to OR.
oh, how many posts do ya hafta have before posting pictures? I'm not qualified yet either.

Sounds like you're having fun hittin' the open road! Though I find on my 99 M3 with Vader seats, I lose comfort about about an hour. You must have the other type of seats.
