Seeing as the search is not visible right now, I'm asking a question about valve adjustment on the s38b36 engine. What's involved in a valve adjustment? If it's too involved, how long would it take a mechanic to do and what should I expect to pay? I'm probably going to have this done near the end of the summer based on my mileage, so I'm not in a rush...

Make sure it is checked prior to adjustment--my mechanic worked on an e34 M5 for over 60K miles that never needed an adjustment. That said, there is a special tool that your mechanic needs to have to adjust them. I just dropped mine off in the shop for all new fluids and inspection II-ish stuff, so hopefully I won't need the adjustment either!

Well, I know it was adjusted less than 11k miles ago, according to maint. records...

Any reputable BMW shop (not dealer) should have this tool, right?

When I got the car back yesterday after the radiator replacement, I asked about replacing all the hoses. He was like, "there are a whole bunch of different hoses in that car and I don't have a single one here in stock, it would probably take weeks to get all of those hoses." He didn't really get around to answering my question about whether they needed to be replaced or not, which kinda rubbed me the wrong way.

Anyone in the Charleston, SC area on here? I've used this guy before with my 540i. You can PM me.
