looking to see if anyone has done any custom setups on an M50. Alot of them seem to be kits from a number of different companies but im curious if anyone has compiled a setup from other parts. im interested because i might do a Supercharged M50 swap into my e30 rather than a S50. even though id rather have the s50 because i prefer the reliabilty of N/A but. Just curious because if i can build a SC M50 for less than an S50 then i have my answer

s50 less wt, and the m50 blown will only make as much power as a bolt on modded s50. I owned a e30 with a s50 motor in it, and it moved. Go with the s50 motor swap.:D

i do not agree with that statement. a full blown, every bolt on known to man s50 will yield about 250-260 hp at the wheels. a M50 with 8psi could hit that mark no problem. now if you throw in an aftercooler and 11psi you will be closer to 300 hp at the wheels with your m50 and also make more torque with the boost then you would NA.

well i was gonna do 11:1 or 12:1 pistons in the S50 if i did it.

how much more will that give another 10 at the rear wheels?

I seem to remember a few members making close to 400rwhp on M50s so you obviously have no idea what you're talking about :devillook

That's a reliabilty issue too ... though maybe less than FI.

Reliability really only becomes an issue if corners are cut and/or maitnence is neglected. There are plenty of reliable turbo, blown or high comp. cars running around. None of them were probably cheap to build (relatively speaking).

I have a fully built m50 in my e30 punched out to 2.7L and will be running 14psi and RMS stage 2 with a TEC3 ...... looking for 400rwhp...

motors in.... breaking it in now and sorting out problems .......

break - in dyno in 1 week.....

Car made 192rwhp in near stock form in the e30 just had m3 cams, headers and intake .. and was having fuel problems also....

s50 is not less wt... is the same as a m50 or m52 or s52 .. only motor less wt is a m52 out of a z3 cuz it has a alum block. 50 LB less then a m50..... I have a spare one sitting in the garage. the mz3 might have a alum block too but I don't think so.

dyno results will be posted once the motor is brocken in and we can wind her out then they will be posted again once the SC is re - installed .

P.S e30 moved like a bat outa hell with stock m50 and RMS stage 1
