You want a 4spd? I think most people swap to a 6spd, out of a Evo e36 M3 or a e46 330i.

Engine swaps and transmission swaps are two different things tho.

You could do any of the e36 engines - How much money do you have to spend? That sets a lot of BMW goals.

ill trade you my 4 speed auto tranny for your 5 speed tranny if you drive up to oregon and do the swap with me. ill even give you $100 towards gas $$.

I'm pretty sure he means ' I have a dire need FOR speed' not for a 4 speed. This is only my guess. Like the Top Gun line, "I have a need, a need FOR speed."

thanks for straightening that out. I was going to suggest he take a sharpie and black out 5th gear on the shift knob.

you can swap a M50 2.5L out of a 325i, an M52 2.8L with an OBDI conversion from a 328i, S50 or S52 engines from E36 M3s. most everything with E36's is interchangeable, money gets tight though working on BMWs, the most cost effecteive upgrade, in my opinon, would be a DASC system, Downing Atlanta Super Charger, much the same performance of an M3 engine swap, but much less $$$.

about how much would that s50 or s52 engine cost? as well as the DASC?

Now that would be a sweet swap, probably a little over budget though.

supposing that I went with a DASC i would only feel comfortable with an engine rebuild prior to install. How much do typical oem style m50 rebuilds cost? ballpark me
