i currently drive a 1996 Infiniti I30t and i am considering buying a 1994 325is. its beige, AT, heated seats, acs. its got 155,000 on the odometer. the mileage scares me, what are some problematic areas in the e36 should have checked? what maintenance should i perform? The door panels are falling apart but are fixable and the drivers seat needs to be recovered, other than that the interior is fine. The exterior is pretty good for a 12 year old car and doesnt appear to have been in an accident. it was repainted factory beige. the price is $2000. Should i buy it? i have pics but i cant post them.... no pics urls or anything...lame.

email me pics, but if the motor is good i say go for it!

cooling system MUST be changed out (atleast the waterpump, but i would recomend radiator, t-stat, t-stat housing, all hoses etc....

pretty much after that work on changing all of your fluids. good luck!

test drive it and give it a good workout. if everything is in good order the mileage isn't anything to be worried about.

I'm sure the original water pump has long since been changed w/ 155k...

dont go wasting money on replacing good parts. if it doesnt leak and doesnt overheat its good to go.
the water pump has prolly been changed twice so far anyways.
thats a killer buy id get it.

$2,000 isn't that bad. I got my 318 for 3 grand.

According to these online car appraisers, Edmund's, KBB, NADA, that's about half of the trade-in value. If there is nothing major wrong, that is a screaming deal. It needs to be checked out thoroughly though. I would have a mechanic experienced in BMW's take a good long look at it. OOPS, looked at a 95' instead of a 94', still not a lot of difference.

i am driving it for the day and having it looked at by a mechanic. it is for sale for 4200 but i am a car salesman so i know a few dealers personally. i will tell him to check out the cooling system. its got new tires but could prolly use an oil change. ill keep you posted. thanks-dave

thats a great buy!! i would definately go for it...

i agree with everyone else on the fact that if it isnt broken, dont fix it!! but at the same time i would argue it is very possible that it has the original water pump in it, because my original waterpump failed at 132k miles.. and my friends went at 150k...

but nevertheless thats a crazy good deal, and new tires makes it even better!

Let a mechanic look at it to cover your butt, besides that sounds like an OK deal. There are plenty on members with over 150k on their 325's.

$2000, buy it and don't think twice.
thats the best car you will find for the price, period !
Most parts cars go for more that that with no motor.
I paid way over that,:buttrock

i had a bimmer guy look at it and he says there is a small oil leak tward the rear of the valvecover. could be the valve cover gasket or a seal of some sort. he said not to be too worried about it and that it was small.... everything else checked out alright. so it looks like i will be frequenting the forums... goodbye maxima.org!!-dave

asc light is always off or the light is always on (showing that it's off)? some people get that part confused.

the asc light is always on, meaning acs is turned off. itll get sideways. i like that but i dont want it to become a problem.

check the connections and check to be sure that the actual asc throttle body is still there. some of us (including me) pull it out for performance reasons.
