so.... title pretty much covers it. zymol had a pretty bad wrap on bf.c but i figured i'd give it a shot. did it all by hand, no polisher. i think it came out pretty well. the paint is silky smooth and 3dimensional enough to make me go crosseyed. i'm very pleased with the results.

this is the first chance i've had to really clean up the paint. i picked it up in january from another forum guy, who had some parts (roof, rear quarter, hood, bumper...due to vandalism) repainted last november. only drawback to spending this much time so close to the paint is i found all the spots where the shop cut a few corners....

the lamin-x yellow fog covers look better than i thought they would.

also succesfully accomplished a full cruise control retrofit....pics and writeup to come.

more pics to come when i get on something besides 26.4k dialup. :buttrock

With search as reliable as not having it all... tell me why Zymol has a bad rep?

I have a bottle and I am waiting to apply it by hand soon. Is it bad enough to not apply it?

i've been thinking of picking of some stuff to detail my car soon, what products do you guys suggest?

...oh yeah, and how would one sucessfully detail a car? i've only just washed it with some soap and water... it's terrible, i know.

what would happen if you put two layers of lamnix on the fogs

paulkeith

kingrye, you'd probably lose a good bit (~25%) of your light output. also, the lamin-x would start to get visibly thick. the layer i just put on my fogs was 17 mils i think, and its thick enough to where 2 layers would look funny. why do you want to?

vdubkid, check out the sticky at the top of the bimmerrides forum. there is a whole DIY and product recommendations for detailing.

eric r, i say go for it. the few posts i had read said zymol left scuffs and haziness, neither of which happened to me. i washed (turtle zip...i know, i know), claybared like woah, rinsed off with water, and then used some meguiars applicator pads and one 100% cotton hand towel to remove the wax, and another to buff it a little by hand. when i was done, the towel woudln't sit on the hood...it would slide off. give it a shot and see what happens. zymol is famous enough that i think if you do it right you'll get good results.

that being said, next wax for my beast will be p21s....not because i'm not happy with zymol, but because i want to see if all the hype about the p21s stuff is true.

thanks for the compliments,
Paul

the sticky is in the show/shine section...All the zymol I've seen over the counter is a cleaner wax. You'll get better depth/shine if you use a pre-wax polish then use a carnauba wax.

I really dont understand why people hate on zymol here. Maybe the kids here just cant afford it? I have used nothing but zymol on my car for the last 5 years, and the results really speak for themselves. Every day I drive it people tell me it looks brand new. Not bad for 191k miles.
Look up the results from this years Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance. 9 class winners and the best of show were prepared using zymol.

the only people who come in and ask for zymol are the internet warriors, they are also convinced that porter cable buffer's are superior LMAO.

3M would rock zymol in any level.

Did you even read my post? Ever hear of pebble beach?
PCs arent really my thing though, I apply everything by hand. It takes forever but it really works.
Being a pro detailer then, you understand the difference between a dealer detailer who does lots of cars in a day and the guy that does his own car a few times a year. It makes no sense for someone like you to use zymol, but there are thousands of guys like me who do.

Clay is hard work, together with the protection steps necessary to protect the bare paint afterwards.
