View Full Version : Clutch slipping or diff install problem?

Today I noticed that while in 4th, my rpms would climb faster than they should for the amount of throttle given. It is noticeable when I jump on the throttle quickly. My car also does not feel as fast.

In other words, it feels like the clutch is slipping.

Recently, I installed a new differential. The installation appeared to go flawlessly and it has been performing without issue thus far.

Is this more likely a slipping clutch (~117,000 miles) or an issue with the differential install? I have an s50 flywheel sitting around, and I'm waiting to order an s50 Sachs clutch kit - I'd just feel more comfortable knowing this is indicative of a slipping clutch.

Any input helps, thanks.

I would say its your clutch thats about the right time for it to go out depending on the life its led. Shift hard into 5th at ~30mph flooring it and see if it slips. It shouldnt be hard to tell if its slipping under load.

Me too. Hopefully this is the only cause of my recent lack of power.

any smells coming from the car after it is slipping?

Not necessarily. I know the smell of a burning clutch. And now it actually almost never slips as much as it did on those few instances.

However, my clutch does feel awful. New s50 clutch kit and flywheel combo go in soon so I can rule that out or solve the problem.

Yeah, I think it would smell if the clutch was slipping

It has been determined that it's my clutch.

Can a failing clutch make any sort of noises once engaged?
