They have a very awkward deal to get over...

And I would dawg a 318 in the Canyons. Why does torque matter? Its still faster then a stock M3 or as fast. That says alot about Honda quality. Its also very fun to drive and a crazy fun car on the twisties.

The X3 is supposed to hold .88 G's on the skidpad, which if I'm not mistaken is better than an e36 3-series (stock of course). And it's not all about torque and HP over in yonder europe. 318 can get up there in speed and is pretty good on gas for a nice looking comfortable and safe RWD sedan/coupe. But f*** that, give me the bigger displacement until gas gets to $4-5 per gallon. Then we'll all be loooking for those diesel bimmers.

I posted this because alot of 16 year olds have been talking about how bad their 318 are. How hey are killing Integra GSR and S2000 in them. If my 3500 pound SUV can beat it they are pathetic in my book.

Actually, believe it or not, M Roady, the X3 is actually manufactured and sold by BMW, and is, in fact, also as much a genunine BMW as the 318i. If you look carefully at the X3, there are, in fact, also BMW roundel emblems on the front and the back of the vehicle, similar to those on the 318i. Those symbols do indicate that the car is in fact, a BMW (except in the rare cases such as that of the yellow mutated mazda 6 with the jet engine hood). You should try the "look for the roundels" technique when attempting to determine whether a car is a BMW or not. You will be surprised at how well it works. :D :D :stickoutt ;)

I'm not one to hate on ti's but IMO they're the redheaded stepchild of BMW.... until you drop an S52 in there.... Tastefully modded, they can look nice.

I was a college student once, too, but I didn't want a bimmer just because I knew it was going to be a bitch to fix and burn a hole in my pocket. So, I saved up for years while driving a '90 Dodge Dynasty (which hit 2 deer, had a failed headgasket where I lost compression in two cylinders, and shot flames out the exhaust AT ALL TIMES and kept running). Now my only regret is not saving up for an M3.... :( But I should be swapping in the future to cure that problem.

So cliff notes: swap an LS1 into your ti and it will be stylish

Maybe on a track car where you acctually hit 100MPH and where its safe to go full throtle from a dead stop I'd say a spoiler is "Highly Functional". I would have to agree, my 318is is super slow. When I first got it I got in a few races. I got beat by everything from soccer moms, to SUVs with 24 inch wheels. I don't try to racing anything in that car now. I just cruise and enjoy the great gas mileage. I must say it is still a nice looking car and very reliable. If I want to beat up on some people I drive my M3. But the 318 is just for cruising.

well duh... of course your gonna blow the doors off it...i find this interesting though cuz i beat out a mustang in my m42 318i...but the stang was a v6... and i beat out my friends exlporer sport... the only things i have is a new air filter, exhaust, headers, and suspension...

if it was an 80's 318 with the m10, that's a dead give away... or if it was the m42 e36..

The X3 is supposed to hold .88 G's on the skidpad, which if I'm not mistaken is better than an e36 3-series (stock of course). And it's not all about torque and HP over in yonder europe. 318 can get up there in speed and is pretty good on gas for a nice looking comfortable and safe RWD sedan/coupe. But f*** that, give me the bigger displacement until gas gets to $4-5 per gallon. Then we'll all be loooking for those diesel bimmers.

But, 318 is outmatched in street racing--shouldn't even count as a kill:stickoutt

I like the E30 318 but the E36 dont do it for me.

Not exactly true. Most collection systems for BMW inline sixes (factory and aftermarket) use two collectors, one for cylinders 1-3 and the other for cylinders 4-6. Two pieces makes it a lot easier to get em in and out of the car. Not sure about four cylinder cars.

Most of my time here has been spent in the FI forum, where (you guessed it) I enjoy learning about FI bimmers and their capabilities. The i/c/e SC'd 318's are nowhere near the stock M's.

If you look very closely, I mentioned the sc in my post as well, right after the i/c/e. And you should do a search for DASC. Some guys with EXTENSIVE mods like soup nazi are ovr 200 whp. the sc will hardly ever get over 170whp w/ i/c/e. Most dyno's I've seen are around 160 whp. And that is NOT M3 territory.

You asked what I have, I told you what I drove, as in, not a passenger:stickoutt. If you drove those cars, and could actually handle the power at half throttle, then you'd understand why the 318 is not worth any praise (unless you want to drive from X to Y on one tank, but then you'd be in the wrong forum)

k im done with you, s/c 318 puts ~185 to 190 to the wheels plus c/i/e i would think to around 205-10. the hp on a stock e36 m3?? 240 bhp minus the ohh 17% drivetrain loss and your looking at 199.2whp.

I've driven several performance cars, the quickest of which is an e39 M5. I've been around, and as I said before, I'm saving up. I didn't bother to even think of a 318 for me. Going right to the real deal. I can handle the power in most cars quite well, because I've driven various capable cars. For extended periods of time. But rest assured, unlike you, I won't overestimate myself.
