heres the situation. My car needs about $1000 worth of work. Rear struts, rear control arm stay, and tranny seals. I love my the color to death, and it still drives great. A friend of my uncles might sell his Alpine 1994 325i with similar miles as mine (170k) for $3k - $4k. This guy babies his car, and is friends with the owner of Bimmerhaus, probably the best shop in colorado, or the front range BY FAR! If I could get $2k-$3k for my car, it just may be worth it, even if I would have to have an Alpine white :rolleyes  :( :( :( instead of my Calypso.
heres some info on my car. How much could I get for it???
1994 5spd Calypsorot 325i tan interior.
Car was in an accident, about a year ago. front left was hit, and that was all that was damamged. We had everything fixed. Needed an entire new front left suspension, hood, and bumper.
ENGINE runs GREAT 177k miles. never get any check engine lights, oil lights go out after about 3 seconds after starting. No noise, except slightly squeekey belts. Still pulls and sounds great.
TRANNY Needs new seals. Still in great shape, Clutch is great. Doesnt pop out of gears at all.
EXTERIOR Not great. Stock headlights are yellowing and pitted. missing one fog. Paint is somewhat bad. touth up paint all over the car, but it doesnt look that bad, until you take a look at the front. That is because the place we had paint the front did a VERY crappy job on it. The hood and drivers fender are color matched, but the paint is flaking off. Black plasting and grey are allright.
INTERIOR is good for the most part. Hole in the side fo the leather on drivers seat is the main thing. But the leather is not very cracked or worn other then that at all. Half of the passengers electric seat control button is broken, you can still move it if you get a pen to stick in there.
SUSPENSION Even though the front left was hit, the front suspension is allright. It makes a creekey noise going over bumps, but turns and feels great. The rear struts need replacing, and the rear control arm stay is bent -so I am told.

calypsorot is nice. Ive had mine about a year. Its getting alittle old to me tho. Plus, would you rather have a nicer looking car or a working car? Dont keep the calypsorot just for the color. Do up the alpine with alot of cf and im sure you'll be happy.

Im assuming CF=Carbon Fiber? I like the idea, but seeing as how im looking at buying a car with 170k miles, I dont have the extra money, atleast at the moment.
Im also trying to see, if you guys think it is worth selling my car, for one, that may have been taken batter care of, and wasnt in an accident, but has just as many miles. I mean my car hasnt given me too much trouble. just maintence stuff really. Ive dont the brakes, plugs, one coil, and the front struts. now it needs the rear struts, and a control arm stay. That is in the past year +.

Bmw's will last as long as you take care of them. Just make sure the alpine doesnt need as much work as yours. Plus, your already at 170,000 with some work needed and an accident under your belt. Push the car alittle more and its almost going to be impossible to get anything for it and your going to have an empty wallet if problems keep building up. You dont want it to become a money pit.
I'd say go for the alpine. CF isnt something you have to put on the car right away. Use extra cash you save to add things here and there.

well, I plan on driving it until its not worth much, unless it seems to be a better option to go with this Alpine, or another..
(bump) any other opnions?

i love both alpine and calypsorot. if I had the chance, i'd take one of both. For you though (since you have a 94 vanos; and understanding your financial situation), I think it would be better to go with the alpine one since you said its been well maintained.
and dont worry, im goin through some financial trouble myself and am debating whether i want to sell my 92 calypsorot or not. I always manage to convince myself not to sell it :). my heart is too attached to it...lol
hope things work out well...good luck deciding

well, I am 19 and still living at home, going to college when its not summer... I realize I am very lucky to have a BMW in the first place. anyhow, a white car just seems, well, boring to me.

well, I know a bit about electricity. But my lights came with this extra long wire, that appears to supposed to be hooked from one light, to the other, then directly to the battery. This is on top of the harnesses as well. I cant figure out where to hook the other wire into the battery. without that other wire hooked into the battery, the lights do very funky things. When I trun on the city lights, one city light works, but the other doesnt, but the angle eyes light up. just crap like that in all the lighting combinations (brights on, parking lights....)

so this shop in town wants to give me $2,000 for it. if this Alpine is in good condition, I may just have to do that...

From what you described about your car, I'd take the $2,000 and never look back.

+1. Id take that 2k, and try to get the alpine, then you can drive that until you are better off financially to pick up a unique colored newer BMW. Thats my opinion. Like someone else was saying, better to have a car that runs well (but not your color) than have a car that is barely getting you around (but you love the color). :D Good luck on the decisions.

well, the question is, is my car really that bad?
I have had it a year. heres the deal:
Replaced front brakes, plugs, and a coil, and front struts.
Now, the tranny seals, rear control arm stay, and rear shocks. Also, the Power Steering rack is leekey. I should jsut be able to top it off and it should work for 3 years more, or so...
so is that that bad at all??

Well it's not THAT bad.. it just depends on how much time and energy (and $$) you want to put into it. It is a car and anything can be replaced on it. You just have to ask youself if it is worth it to you.
If it is.. Good luck! I hope your repairs go well. ;)
If it isnt... Congrats on deciding to buy a different car. ;)
Either way.. the forum is here to back ya up with info. :)
