has anyone had experience with the mintex pads (or other pads) on this page...
http://autohausaz.com/search/productx.aspx?sid=crmmkqugezc0qn2wak1znz55&makeid=800003@BMW&modelid=1313583@328I&year=1998&cid=14@Brake%20%26%20Wheel%20Hub&gid=1684@Brake%20Pad%20Set

i'm ordering a bunch of other stuff from there and i need front rotors and pads all around so i figured i'll just get the brakes from there also

any other suggestions, good deals currently going on..?
i'm not looking for drilled or slotted rotors because i'll be doing the 330 brake in a couple months... this is just a replacement for warped rotors

please post some links or websites where they have good deals on brakes and let me know what you think of the above pads

thanks

I used minitex in my 325i and had nothing but problems. I warped 2 sets of rotors before the shop said the pads were too hard and that was causing the problem. Replaced them and never had the problem again. I'm not sure which minitex they were though.

After reading countless posts (searching does work)I decided on Hawk HPS. Then I found out I have tons of meat on my current pads still. Oh well, at least now I know.

I wouldn't just get "whatever" pads. Do a search and read up. Pads are like tires; easy to skimp on a consumable, but you'll regret it.

Whatever's still on the car has LOTS of life left, so no new pads for now.

Either I searched or read the stickies (can't remember) but either way, it boiled down to PBR/Axxis Metal Masters (brake dust++) or the Hawk HPS.

I am running akebono ceramics from Tirerack and they are excellent - when wet, they seem to grip BETTER - my pagids really didn't care for h20 at all, and I never have to clean off dust - never. Also quiet and stable - I got some Brembo OEM type rotors from the rack also, but they are still waiting for next pad set. Takes a little getting used to, the Ps were toe touch sensitive and the ake's are more like foot force, but are more controllable when adrenalizing - rotation under trail braking is WAY easier to induce and modulate.

i think i want to go with hawk hps... what's the best place to buy online ?? tirerack has them for $146 and that's a little too high for pads but i'll go with them if that's the best price.. anyone know a good deal out there ... ?

i was thinking pelican parts, but with the talk of tire rack, right now i am leaning towards the akebonos from there, and probably rotors and sensors from pelican.

i'm getting rotors from performancepartsstore.com, i think they're a vendor on here but not sure. brembo blanks are about 65 for front and 54 rear.... i'm not sure where to get the pads yet but i'm leaning toward the hawk hps ones either from tirerack or bimmerworld

hey, what paste do you suggest to use on the pads against squeeling

Um I don't think it matters to much the ultimatesctually have an anti chatter pad on them already, but I just bought a tube of anti squeel from autozone, it was bright orange and works great.

what's a good brand of pads (low noise, low dust, easy on the rotors...) to get for ~$100?? i really really don't want to spend the $150 for the hawk pads cuz i don't really see the necessity to have really good pads, but i do want something that won't eat my new rotors... pagid, pbr ??

pagids are ok, but dust a lot (in my opinion). before my bmw i had never experienced dust like this. i have also gone through a couple sets of brake rotors, too. that might be me, though.

Yeah I Hear you on not wanting to shell out 150 for pads kinda high. The Axxis pads are awsome quite and stop great. Biggest draw back I've never seen so much brake dust generated so fast :( But small price to pay for fantastic braking performance. They are a bit cheaper than the HPS and perform just as well think.

I think I got that site through a group buy thread, but I could be wrong. Just do a google search.

bmw used to use pagid but i guess they quit in the last few years because of their noisemaking. Now apparently they use jurid, so I got those from pelican parts. I also didnt check the brakes until i already got the new ones and they have plenty of life still on them. I thought the squealing was the you-need-to-change-your-brakes squeal but it was just the pads making noise, the front rotors are also grooved. The jurid pads have an angled design, kind of like a pyramid, which i thought was strange at first but i guess the'yre designed to not make noise.

how are the jurid ones as far as dust, noise, stopping power ??

I'm getting some front end vibration under braking now and at my last inspection the shop said my rotors were going to need replacing sooner or later, so I'm about to do this (pads and rotors) as well. Right now I'm very confused. Can someone post (or at least start) a list of Rotor/Pad combinations and the relative merits of each? Perhaps a 1 to 5 rating in each of these categories:
1. Price (low to high)
2. Braking Performance
3. Braking Feel
4. Dust

I'd like to buy some parts that give me a good compromise of all of the above.
Thanks.

i just ordered a set of hawk hps pads from understeer.com for $145 shipped and brembo blank rotors all around from pps.com for about $105

as for your question... searching will help you a lot but it seems like axxis and hawk are one of the best pads and i'm sure there are a couple more out there that many prefer. as far as rotors, i think any oe rotor is fine, especially if blank, but if you want to go with drilled or slotted, i think ate, zimmerman, powerslot are a few names with good rotors. actually i don't know how good powerslot is but i know ate and zimmerman are reputable brands.

i guess it all depends on what you want to get... performance, street, etc... i went with blanks and hawks because i'll be doing the 330 brakes in a few months and will go slotted with those so wanted to save some money.

anyway, hope this helps

Hey does anyone know if this is what pads I need for my rear; 325i. When I look on pelican parts they dont seem to have any available.

Rear Brake Pad Set, OEM, 318i/is/iC (1992-98), 318ti w/ M42 (1995), 323i/is/iC, 328i/is/iC (1996-99), 325is/ic (1992-95)
Brand: Jurid

I want to go with Balo rotors and Jurid pads, they have front pads, but I dont see any reference for rear pads. Thanks.

Just wondering if the sensor has to be replaced at the time of pad replacement?

sort of, you can probably re-use yours if you carefully remove it. The full kit I bought earlier in the year came with sensors.

Just wondering if the sensor has to be replaced at the time of pad replacement?

replace it only if the light is on... those just tell you when you really need to go change the pads, so if you change them like me, which is basically when you feel like they should be changed, and if you don't let them wear down enough for the sensor to go off, then i don't see a point in replacing it... i've changed pads twice and didn't mess with the sensors

I have the axxis ultimates with the TMS cross drilled rotors, pretty good setup, they used to make a bit of a noise when they were breaking in, but I dont hear the noises at all anymore, maybe the music is turned up too much :D
