Yep, just as the title suggests I'm looking at a 91 525 with 178,000 on it.What are some things that I should look for before I buy it? Where are some troublesome rust spots? He claims to just had the transmmision rebuilt. It appears to be in pretty good condition but he's asking $4700 :eyecrazy which seems a little steep(KBB is 3750). Any suggestions? Thanks

Way, way high. 525 autos in excellent shape with 100k or so will go for $4-5k all day long. Too high for the miles, unless it's in spectacular shape.

It's in no way spectacular. Granted, it's no pile 'o crud either. Mabey I'll call the guy tommorrow. At ~ 180,000 miles wouldn't the timing chain need to be replaced? I'm just afraid that if anything breaks I'll end up paying more to repair the car than the car itself but that is the case with old BMWs. My dad had an E30 M3, I should know.

Timing chain should last the life of the engine, but should be replaced if the engine is rebuilt.

I love my E34. 92 525 w. 120k on it. Unfortunately the guy sold me mine with a cracked head. Good thing the car was so nice, I didn't really care. maybe have the coolant system pressure tested first.
