I saw someone with a 96 M3 that had an HKS exhaust. It sounded very nice, not too loud. It is a single 70mm pipe, and the owner said it was about 20 lbs lighter than stock. This looks interesting, since it is near the sound of the AA/Supersprint, but lighter. Anyone else have any experience with the HKS exhaust? I can't find it for sale at any of the normal BMW tuners though, only through the japanese import shops. I don't want to go louder than AA, but lighter would be nice.

I've got the HKS Klasse on my car and I think it rocks!! Took me a little while to get used to the single oval tip, but now I think it looks better than the twin tips, and a lot more unique. Sound is cool too, it rumbles aggressively at idle and is really sporty as you run through the gears, but not too loud at all. I've had lots of appreciative comments from other bimmer owners, and it looks awesome all polished up.
I guess the coolest thing is that you don't see them on every car in town. they are Japanese made, but designed (from what some people have told me) in Germany specifically for our cars. So, I guess technically it's rice with a German accent:D !!
Get one, you'll like it a lot!!

Jon Caldito - Thanks for posting the pics. I've seen that exhaust before, but I didn't know it was made by HKS.

Oh I forgot, since I have turbo now, the entire exhaust sounds like a stock exhaust system now.

Thats a good question E\/O. I want to say they're almost the same exhaust noise level but not totally identical. Its pretty aggressive when rolling from a stoplight but at high rpms it starts to mellow out. Its been a year since I last heard what my exhaust sounds like without the turbo.
Just letting you guys know that I plan on selling this exhaust when I get my custom one made. I dont know how many miles this exhaust has but I may sell it sometime early next year unless someone really wants to buy it. It says HKS Klasse stamped on the top of the tip.

I had a muffler back HKS exhaust for about two years. In that time it was great for NA. Stock hp levels went from 211-213hp to 225-226 with exhaust and HKS airfilter. I started to notice that the performance was starting to degrade since then. I just took it as bad software from JC. I wasn't worried about it too much cause a stage I SC from RMS was around the corner. On the initial test drive with Osh, we heard a very constricting sound coming from the exhaust. I looked into the tail pipe and saw the packing material and perferated piping rusted and falling apart!! I've used HKS in the past with my Integra and had the same rusting probs. I thought they figured it out. Don't waste that much money, I would recommend AA turbo exhuast. It's a little louder at full throttle, sounds great, and has a better warranty!
Stage II RMS 430hp / 350lbs @ the wheels and growing!
