Dont you hate the brake dust you get on your wheels every week? :mad I was looking for some new ones but I didnt know which ones to get.. I was debating between Hawk or Axxis Deluxe. Ive heard only good things about both. What are the pros and cons of each? Is there a better brand? Thanks

Watch out for those low brake dust pads... some are very loud
I had some axxis ceramic pads on my previous E39 and they squeeled really bad.
I went with black rims on my current E39 so i dont care about brake dust

I see forum people saying mostly good things about Axxis Ultimate, Deluxe and Akebono Pro Act and new Euro

In order to shed less dust, a low-dust compound must be harder than OE pads. A natural consequence of that is a lower level of friction and greater heating of the pads. For a car that is gently driven with little demands being made of the brakes low-dust pads may be fine. However, if the car is driven vigously, it isn't unusual to have low-dust pads reach temperatures that exceed thei Maximum Operating Temperature (MOT). When the MOT is approached or exceeded you get into the realm of brake fade. And if there's insufficient driving, without use of the brakes, to cool the pads & rotors back down, they will leave uneven deposits of pad material on the rotors, which leads to vibration under braking.
Most High Performance Street (HPS) pads exceed the performance of OE pads and as a bonus make a bit less dust. They also have a higher MOT as compared to OE pads. Axxis Ultimates, Hawk HPS, Pagid Sport, etc., are all HPS type pads and are a good alternative to OE pads.

I like Axxis Ultimates, if for street use.

I have a 2001 525i which makes my front rims pretty gross after only a week of driving.
Anyone have a recommendation on brake dust shields?

Unless you brake vigorously enough to warm up race-style pads, you would be better off with street style pads. The Axxis Deluxe feel very close to stock and have nearly zero dust (at least the wheels stay basically clean between washings). Plus they are easy on your rotors.
