View Full Version : I still drove home in a bmw ...

Raced a new C32 AMG Kompressor on the highway, my friend Tommy was driving it. I was in 3rd gear at 70mph and we both punched it, he instantly starts pulling on me and by the time we hit 100+ish, he had 1.5 cars on me. I now realize the car has 100 more HP than me though. After working a C43 AMG, I thought for sure this would be a cake walk...wrong!
On my way home yesterday, this guy in a prelude pulls even with me for the sake of doing it seemingly, on his phone @ 60 mph. I hate being around people when they're driving on their phones, so I put my clutch in, blip the throttle, shift into 3rd and jet off in front of him.
Shortly after I do that, he tries to do a fly by and I see what's happening and I go into 3rd again, by the time I do this, he's a half a car ahead of me. Problem is, I'm not making up any ground, we're both pulling equally. He's not your average ricer because he slowed down for traffic that we were catching up to and was very courteous, which I really like seeing.
We stopped at a gas station, he asked me what model my car was. I asked what he had
His Mods:
Exhaust, Headers, no cats
Cams, ECU, Intake and a stage 3 clutch.
He also said he was getting a Jackson Racing SC kit for it, which will be pretty mean in that car.
Was a good looking Lude too, no wing, no retarded body kit. Gave him a lot of props for doing what he did.

It's a long standing joke among BMW Owners, I can see how a VW owner may not "get it".

No offense, but stockish E36 M3s are losing their ground for competition quickly in this day of horse power war age where a lot of car manufacturers are busy pushing out high powered cars, not to mention a lot of modded cars out there. But it still is very respectable for the age and the price range, I think.
Plus, there are a lot of options to make E36 M3s fast now days. ;)

Hell, a C32 AMG will keep up with my car. I barely gained any ground on one i was playing with on the highway...Although it was more a spirited run together then a competitive, i still was a little faster...

If you read the kill forums long enough you'll catch on to the humor. IE: would have had him in the twisties; at least I drove home in a bimmer, etc. It's funniest when it's applied vs. badass cars like a 996 turbo or the like :)
Meanwhile, just sit back and enjoy the forum! I know it's one of my favorite places to kill some time, because it's one of the few places where you can talk about street races without getting the ninny patrol up your ass. And I like BMW products.
Oh yeah, nice runs. No shame in losing to a C32 AMG it's a fast car. Nice to hear about a tastefully modded Honda.

That really only works when you're talking to a guy driving a 1992 Civic and you're in a car that's worth more than $15K. A lot of people can afford BMWs now, so it's not really anything to brag about.
Edit: Ah, nevermind, it was a joke I see. Ha ha. :)

so true.....with cars like the STI, EVO, etc. 300 hp isnt a lot anymore and if you want to compete you gotta do some serious mods. :help 240 hp NA isnt going to beat many cars on the street....

unless the person in the other car has serious turbo lag and it's 85+ degrees with humidity.

What model was it? Was it the last Gen Prelude or the one before it (the one with the triangular tail lights)?
The mods he listed sound about right for the results between your car and his. He is probably putting down 220+whp.
My plan was to build a 230+whp H22. Maybe one day. :dunno

dude whatever indeed... i bought the b5 b/c i didnt want to pay the premium for the 4-ringer, and it was highly moddable which is more than i can say for alot of the rides here. i respect all whips, too bad you can't do the same.

modded b5s (a4 & passats) put down close to 205hp/245lbs with just a chip. i don't think that's too shabby.

I had an 00 A4 1.8t that was chipped and it was nowhere near those specs.
it was a 3rd gen, H22.

Sounds like a 4th gen (92-96 bodystyle). :)
funny thing....i'm about to sell my Lexus for a VW Jetta TDI.......talk about a downgrade!!! Whole reason is to pound on a cheaper car on a daily basis, save some $$ and buy a new C6 Z06 in a few months. I've always been a fan of most of the VW styling, so we'll see how I like it.
If I can get one of those beasts i'm not going to miss the lexus one bit!!
