View Full Version : Bmw 325ix vs E34 M5 3.8
We had pretty big debate here in Finnish BMW forum after i said that i could kill E34 M5 3.8 with my bone stock 325ix 0-62. First they started to say you don't have a change in quarter mile etc. But i only said from dead stop to about 62mph. After a while i lost my nerve and called my friend with m5 and say let's do this.
So today we did. We did 3 runs just to make sure and took it on camera too. And video includes 220hp corrado vr6 with us too.
The outcome was pretty surprising. Take a guess what happened. I tell you the result later ( i haven't made the video public here in finnish or the result :D ).

Not a kill with out a story or video.

I'm sorry i can't tell you the result yet. The debate still continues here in finland.
But i tell you the result soon and you will see the video also. Be patient.

what year is your 325?
what year is your 325?
My 325ix is 86. Is bone stock except 40mm cobra lowering springs and 17" wheels which actually makes it slower of the line compared to 15" wheels (which are stock ix wheels).

Dont think you're gunna win that one...
Ok, the truth is out. The race was done uphill to the point when M5 goes by ix. It was obvious that M5 will lose at start and some point goes by.
Cameraman was standing at 200meter mark from the startline and the M5 past ix only after this point each time! At this point the ix speed was between 110 and 130km/h!! And corrado was somewhere behind.
I knew that the ix was quicker of the line but by this much it was a little surprise :D .

i used to drop the clutch at 3000 in my 87 ix and yeah, they launch pretty hard. you oculd probably beat him to 100kmh but that's about all.
as a side note, i did 144mph in my 87 ix, but that was downhill :D

In these races i dropped the clutch at 6000rpm, man that thing takes off! I was little bit worried how the drivetrain would hold together but it did fine :D
Let see if i can get the video here so you can all see how the ix kills M5 :D .

Judging by his cars, he's done a lot better than E36dom.

Unless you're referring to a 60ft time, you don't stand a snowflake's chance in hell. Unless you're friend is unimaginably dumb, and broke his tranny or drove in reverse, you will never win.

It is impressive, but not definitive as far as the race you outlined. Since you are talking about time to 62mph, rather than distance, how do we know who hit 62mph first? You may have been ahead from the launch, but he may have hit 62mph before you and been slowly closing in for the kill.
You would need a GPS or radar gun to be sure who got to that speed first.

You are right about the distance and speed. It's possible that M5 hits 62mph sooner but the ix is still ahead.
But like i said, every 3 launch we did the M5 went by ix after 1/8mile mark. That's quite impressive by a car that only have 171hp, vs 340hp.
And about the video, the M5 friend don't want to publish it and i can understand why. Here in finland they can give you ticket and take your license away if they see speeding on internet. Or at least you asking for trouble.
