I'm hearing noise from under the car when I put the car in neutral and let the clutch pedal out. I notice it more when the car is warm (it's not the valve noise of a cold engine) and the noise stops when I push in the clutch pedal (even when the xmission is still in neutral). It's a rattling noise. The clutch seems to work fine.

I searched one of the "other" list archives and found some posts from '99 that didn't sound too encouraging.

Anyone familiar with this problem and its solution, and the urgency of any fix if needed?

Thanks for helping a newbie
Ian

I have the same problem on my 97. It's fairly loud.. and my clutch grips well enough to chrip them in the 2nd-3rd shift at 63mph.

Wait, before you go replacing all those parts and lightening your wallet, answer one question. Do you have a lightweight flywheel on the clutch, if so, these tend to rattle just as you have described. Its prefectly normal and shouldn't be worried about. If not, then its piggy bank slattering time ;)

My car is stock, and only has 30K miles. I'm kinda surprised it would be messed up w/so few miles.

If it's not a big deal then I'll wait until I can afford to replace the clutch parts with higher performance ones in preparation for some go-fast goodies. Is there a downside to getting a heavy-duty clutch - I mean, how's the pedal feel?
