What to look for in used 540i? Problems/issues

I am in the market for a 540i 6 speed and am trying to research what to look for as far as issues, problems etc.

I tried to search but it was down.

I might sell mine if u wanna pay the price

Inspect seals for oil ( especially valve cover )
Examine tires, fluids, brakes, request service records
And punch the shit out of it for 3 miles and u will now if something is wrong

Also check the suspension by turning slowly in a parking lot (doing circles not donuts) make sure you go over a speed bump fast and slow

if everything sounds good go 4 it

If u really want to be sure go get a 120-300 point inspection for around 150 well worth it

also check for repaints

I've read the front suspension is to be watched closely on the 5 - series, particularly around 50k miles and up.

What noise are you listening for over bumps or driving in a circle? I can't tell if mine are the normal suspension noises or the sign of a problem.

Totally agree with paying the $150 for an inspection prior to purchase - nothing cheap about maintaining these cars without a warranty.

I got my 528i from this guy and he was a dream to do business with. I think all he has right now are three 740i s, but he gets a fair share of 540 s and if you contact him he can find one for you.

I found one within a short distance from my house. 00 540I Sport 6SPD. with 58,000 miles

Is there an M edition? This car has M badging on the steering wheel, shifter and wheels

I absolutley love it and my wife seems to as well! I may end up driving her 02 Audi A4 if I'm not careful!
