Last night on my way back from a buddies I come up to a stoplight just as it turns red, one of those stupid 5 minute lights. While I am sitting there I can here something, sounds like a bike with something rattling in the exhaust.
Few moments later a late 80's diarrhea brown half rusted mini van pulls up, sporting a ricer muffler rattleing on the body somewhere.
I laugh, and roll up my window to avoid the smell of burning oil coming from it, and then he revs me, I just laugh but realize he actually wants to run.
So we wait for hte light to turn, I get the jump on him, and put 10 or so car lenghts on him, and right as I was going to let off, I see him gaining on me, and fast too.
By the time I was at 100 mph and shut it down he was like 2 or 3 cars ahead of me.
So how the hell did a POS MINI VAN! beat me?
And where do I get a Supercharger the doesnt cost as much as a CBR900RR so I can redeam myself. (or maybe I should just buy the CBR:P)

haha it was prly one of those crazy caravans dodge had with the turbo 2.4L...clearly he had mods as well, search google for turbo minivan, they're quite infamous for being fast for VERY cheap (like 300whp for ~$500)

WOW!:rolleyes
Hahahah......that sucks man.
Old story I have for you. I used to have a beautiful '69 Camaro that I had digital f/i and a 6 speed manual swap (roughly 500hp). Well my mechanic who performed all the work was a small block chevy genius. He had retrofitted supercharged LS1's and LT1's into everything you can imagine. He happened to have one shoehorned in his Chevy Astro Van. Thats what happens when you have more engines than cars, you put an engine where it doesnt belong!
That minivan would run 12's all day long w/ no traction and was very unassuming because he simply didnt care what it looked like. The only thing that looked afermarket was the quad exhaust sticking out the back which was actually pretty quiet.
I doubt it was him, but if your in maryland and you get your ass handed to you by an astro van you'll know why. Talk about a sleeper!!!

Really funny. Yep, it was probably one of those turbo Dodge minivans from the 80's. There was one entered a few years ago in the Grassroots Motorsports magazine $1500 or $2K whatever-it-is challenge. The team that entered it called it "Mini-Me". I think with some cheap turbo mods like someone said, you can see about 300 hp in those things. Fun stuff.

Hey, most minivans arn't slow. They usually have approaching 200hp and are geared really well. After driving one of the late 80's Chrysler ones on the highway, you DON'T want to go over 85 or so, but they get from 0 to 50 or there pretty quick.
EDIT: Let me add a qualifier there. By slow, i mean base engine model civic from the 80s slow. Think 80s camry with the auto tranny.

Not entirely surprised.
People don't race their "regular" minivans. If you ever see someone in a van wanting to race, I'd be wary that he's got something scary under the hood.

This makes me wanna go get one. My parents have one of those minivans, only the v6 mitsu engine, not the 4cyl turbo. Doh. Oh well, atleast people wouldn't be able to see my V6 PWR because of my totally intentional and superstealthy smokescreen.

It's a kodak moment!
But you have to think.. the minivan driver has to know what their car looks like, they're only trying to race if they know they're going to win :P

the best turbo minivan vid out there

Great car.....underrated in my opinion. Mine unfortunately is no longer around. Totalled it a few months ago in an unfortunate accident with a deer and guardrail.
That car has the most comfortable seats you'll ever sit in. Mine was pretty well modified putting out a little over 375hp.
