This morning while driving in to work my brake pedal was giving me some strange feedback. If I braked hard or agressively it would slow normally to a stop. If I slowed gradually, easing the brake pedal on, as I almost came to a stop I got 2-3 ABS feeling pulses from the pedal. It happens about 50% of the time so far this morning, I imagine it will worsen soon. I have no brake, cel, abs, etc lights on at all. Car is 2000 528i sport. I pulled off both front tires and all connections are good and all nuts are tight.

Im thinking a bad wheel speed sensor but how would I confirm if indeed it is and which one??? Would this not throw a abs light if this were the case? At $85.00 each and having one on each wheel I dont want to just throw parts at it.

Has anyone been down this road before and can shed some light on this for me?
Thankyou,
Dave

Dave,
I am just working through this exact issue with my 528. I hope it works out better for you, but I was getting the same ABS pulses at the brake pedal for about a week or so. I was concerned, but I didn't worry because I wasn't getting any warning lights and the car stopped normally. Wouldn't you know it, after a week, the ABS and ASC lights came on and continued to do so every time I drove the car. Had a local BMW indy mechanic run the codes, which indicated a faulty right front wheel sensor. He replaced it, but the lights came back on 200 feet from the shop. He then ran more tests, and diagnosed a faulty electronic ABS module = $$$. He said if the module goes, it can throw incorrect codes. So, not good news for me. Based on my experience, I would predict that you will get the ABS/ASC lights coming on soon, and then you can have a shop run the codes and go from there. It sucks, but good luck.

Thankyou for the reply. :) Sorry your episode is getting costly.

Ive done a bit of reading/ research on line and will be picking up a wheel sensor this afternoon. After some driving and diagnosis as a passenger it really "feels" like the right front wheel is the culprit. I guess our abs modules are know to fail as well and can be exchanged for rebuilt units, but it isnt always the case and sometimes we get lucky and it is indeed just a wheel speed sensor. Im gonna gamble on the later.... however, if my luck runs as it usually does ill be buying an abs module in the near future. :(
