View Full Version : What the heck is up with my clutch?
I own a 97 M3 3.2L. For the past few months it seemed that the clutch need replacement. It would slip badly under hard acceleration after shifting gears. All the signs of a worn clutch. I've got 79 000 miles on it.
For the last few days, there hasn't been any signs of a slipping clutch. Now, when I accelerate hard and shift at redline into 2nd, I getting wheelspin. Something I haven't experienced since spring.
What the heck is going on?
Is my clutch bad or is it something else??
Tires? You obviously don't need a new clutch if you have enough power getting down to spin the wheels.
Naw, it definitely was NOT tires.
I could smell the freakin' clutch at times! Especially when climbing hills and the clutch was really showing its weakness!
wow - whatever it is I hope the same happens to me!!! Would save me some money since my clutch is slipping when accelerating hard pretty bad.

This may sound dumb but--are you SURE it's wheelspin and not the clutch slipping still/again, maybe in a different manner? When my clutch went out due to excessive power (different car), at first I thought it was wheelspin...
It's definitely wheelspin. I feel the car kick me back when the tires finally grab. I NEVER had this kick-back feeling for months.
When my clutch was slipping, the revs would climb but my car was not accelerating.
Ultimately, I know the difference between wheelspin and clutch slip.
This is strange!
