I was just wondering what the enthusiast/tuning community believes are the strongest aftermarket wheels out there.

I know BBS is regarded very highly, what about ASA, AT Italia, Breyton, Mille Miglia, OZ, and the infamous... SSR?

Let's hear your opinions!

Not SSR Comps - very light and strong, but by no means the least likely to bend.

AT Italia's weigh a ton, as do most Mille Miglia's, but I don't think weight necessarily equals strength.

OZ superleggera are light and strong....could be the winner here

Really? I would disagree. I would say that i have read that the ssr's pound for pound are the lightest, but aren't very stront....

SSR's are very strong considering their weight. I would not drive them anywhere (and I don't) but the track. I have a set with Hoosiers on them. I even try to be easy on the FIA curbing. I would think they would last for a matter of months on Cleveland's potholes.

Forged wheels are generally going to be stronger than cast. ASA makes a forged for BMWs (FR-1), BBS has a few (RC-J, LM most noteably) and there are the specialty manufacturers: Fikse, Forgeline, HRE, etc that make forged wheels exclusively. These wheels are all expensive - some VERY!

Cast wheels? Stick with a quality wheel and there should not be much noticable difference in their strength.

SSR Comps do have a somewhat dubious reputation with regard to their strength, but keep in mind they are also much lighter than all but a few wheels period.

If your roads are really bad, you may want to consider going with a smaller wheel diameter and a taller sidewall diameter to allow for more tire cushioning.

So what's the verdict on the OZ Superleggera's ? I see they are only 16.4 lb.s for 17x8. That's pretty damn light. $280 per rim isnt TOO bad. I might go back to 17's...

IFG in my opinion are the strongest wheels.

Hey Mikey,

I heard good things about the OZs. No personal experience but people seem to think they are quality rims. Can't loose with 17" rims. Tires are fairly priced, more tire options, easier on your wheels and suspension. I was considering going with the BBS LMs or the RC in the 18" size but after considering the above I went for the Fikse in the 17" size but wider (17x9 @ 16.5~17.5lbs). I think for myself, I made a wise choice. Good luck!

I've been told Kinesis wheels were some of the strongest lightweight wheels out there.

Fikse, Kinesis, and HRE may be forged, but only in the center. The lips are not! Only BBS LM is multipiece AND 100% forged.
