What to expect here?

Really bad evening for me..first I get pulled over on a highway doing 136kph in 80kph (cop was in good mood so he lowered it to 112), but then some noise started coming from under the hood.

It's squeaking noise, comes and goes, sometimes really loud, and it seems to be coming from either the fan or belts there. When i trun the car off it stops gradualy, as the fan/belts stop moving. Anything common that could cause this in that area?

That could well be a failing belt tensioner. And dealling with that sooner is better than wating until later. If it is a tensioner that's starting to fail there is a risk of the bearing completely failing, which can cause the tensioner to sieze and take out the belt. As the belt fails it can do other damage (and occasionally a lot of damage).

BTW engine light came on too, if that makes any difference.

Man, get that check out, on my last 5er, the tensioners failed and the belts fell off and all these lights went on. I shut the car off and just rolled to a stop on the side of the road. I had the car towed to the shop and replaced everything. Good thing too, if I would kept driving the car, I would rack up a $5k bill onto the car replacing the heads and all that good stuff.

I took the car to my mechanic, and yes it looks like either the fan or belt issue. However, he told me even if it breaks while driving it won't cause that much more damage, but I'd lose power steering, battery charge etc.

I left it ther so I hope he'll get a chance to fix it today.
