Okay guys, taded my 5er for this. So, I am still in the 5er family....
2000 528iT Black on Black with only 28k on the clock for 19k. Came with everything including all the spare keys. The car still smells brand new. A 70 year old lady had this car before me. Original Cali car sold in Beverly Hill BMW.
When I got the car home, I pretty much put on the wheels and the wide kidney grills and my CAI. I already have parts from the lasts car that is going on to this car. Xenon Angles eyes headlight, Power Chips, Power pullies, and Supersprint exhaust. I can't wait to put all of it on.

Now I need to lower the car big time. I down know how about to lower this car since, it has self leveling in the rear. I hear you can change the links in the rear to trick the car it is lighter? Anyone with a go suggestion with this.

Here are some pics.

Congrats on the purchase. When I bought mine I made sure I got it with the stock sport suspension in case I was going to upgrade the wheels.

I just put some 19's on my touring but don't have any pics of it quite yet. I am very happy with where the back sits and don't think that I am going to lower it, probably just buy some springs and drop the front of it.

I am not quite sure if it has self leveling or not but it does have the M package so it might not.

Wow man, I love the black one with the Hamman kit. I had the same kit on the other car, but could not get it off, since it was moldded onto the car. What a waste:(
Don't know what kit to go with?
As for the suspension... I am am thinking of changing the links in the rear to lower the stance. And the front I will put on the Bilstein shocks and the intrax springs I had from the other car.

I have been waiting to get the touring for three years... I could not get the touring the first time I got the e39.

I am planning to put these wheels on them as soon as they arrive.
20x85 et20 in the front and 20x10 et24 in the rear.

Congrats on your buy... 28K miles... wow, got to love old people. :D

I think there is a way you can trick your rear suspension into lowering... search around, it's been done before by members here.

Thanks...

Yea, the lady and her husban had a 7 series as well and it was low mileage also. The got ride of the one too.

I will keep looking around, this is a new challenge for me to build this car up.

Black e39 wagons FTW!

Here's mine with Bekker's coilovers in the front and modified SL links in the rear:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v71/BimmerDawg/Pattie%20Wagon/th_IMG_1932.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v71/BimmerDawg/Pattie%20Wagon/IMG_1932.jpg)

I'm going to tuck the rear, going ~one inch lower (with 295s, no less!) by adjusting the links. The Mercedes part number is A 220 320 00 32 and you need two, one per side. I also replaced the factory sport shocks, as I had 88k on it and stiffened up the front.

Here's a pic of the link:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v71/BimmerDawg/th_aeb7159e.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v71/BimmerDawg/aeb7159e.jpg)

Basically, you trim the ends off ~1/4 inch, thereby shortening the link itself. Then you dremel out the center "sliding" section so it will be adjustable on the car. Shortening the link makes the car lower, lengthening the link makes it higher. The best part about it is you can adjust the height with the ignition on and the car will lower before your eyes, allowing you to fine tune the looks. Plus, when you load the car down with people or crap, the system always raises it back to where it was, so you never have to worry about scraping or bottoming out.

Ask me any questions you may have about it...I think I'm the first to lower an airbag rear without going to the dealer so it's a trail and error type deal. :)

Sweet ride. I love my 99 and can't imagine giving her up.

A while back I got an email from Pat Dowling of Bavarian Autosport telling me about kits for the touring model. If I understood him correctly, the kits include matching springs and shocks for all four corners and were available for cars with and without the self-leveling suspensions. Prices at the time were $1600 and $1700, witht the self-leveling costing more. I have not purchased them at this time. Maybe someone on the forum has some feedback.

Man, that is pretty costly for the suspension.
I have springs from the last car already. I am planning to do the Bilstien shocks again and put in my springs that are intrax.
As for the rear, I will most likely do the linkage conversion. There is a shop here in LA called D2 Tecnik that works on all the high end european cars that does that all the time to the S-Classes. I will give them a try.

thanks for replying sabbos1

I just went to a local BMW mechanic shop and they lowered the rear electronically. It cost me 1 hour of labor. That might be easier that going with the MB links.

Really, you did not go to the dealer... You went to a independent BMW shop. So, its just like the MB with the air-ride suspension... the MB are lowered by a computer also.
Did they hook it up to the VAG port? And you watch how they lowered your car? Is there a certain setting how low it went or you just to them "when" to stop? As for you front, I assume you change the springs and shock.

I don't know what you are asking for? Are asking about the wheel on the black touring?

On that black one, that is a full Hamman kit on the car, the wheels are 19" Hamman competion wheels. Those are the old wheels, I don't know if they still sell them, I love those wheels. I has a nice classic look to them.

20x8.5/10 with 255/30 and 295/25/20, lowered ~two inches in the front, ~one inch out back.

Here is a pic of my 540it. I have H&Rs on the front with the self leveling in the rear. I am going to do the link trick as soon as I get a chance. I do kinda like the rake that it has now though..Also, these pix are old. It now has OEM M5 mirrors. I have a real Hamann front lip for an M5 if someone is interested. I was going to put it on the wagon but It will hit the curb in the garage so I cant use it...

wow, that is some thick tires on the back. What are your offsets.
I am planning to you do a 20x10 et24. I think that offset will work. What do you think. Don't remember if you rolled your fenders? I am guessing I will have to, that is what I did on the other car.

Nope, I just went to a local BMW shop. It was cheaper than the dealer. I didn't watch them perform the work, so I don't know exactly how they did it. I just told them that I wanted it lowered 15-20mm. I assume that they can lower it to whatever you want.

And yes, I changed the front springs/shocks (H&R/Koni)

Good luck
