I'm having problems with my 6k X-tec HID's. Apparently I'm not the only one having issues with them...

Initially my passenger side light would sometimes not come on with the first flip of the switch. If I would turn the switch off and back on a few times eventually the passenger light would come on. Now it's gone completely dead and I have to get my car inspected soon so it's becoming a big concern.

I switched the ballasts from the pass. side unit and it worked on the drivers side so I've ruled out the ballast. I also tried switching the bulbs and the same thing happened so I'm guessing I have a fuse issue or a wiring problem. As electronics are not really my thing, I was hoping there would be a good samaritan around that could get me going in the right direction with a common place to look for wiring issues or just what fuses I should be checking. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm counting on you guys!

Check your relays in the wiring. Mine were rusted because the water was not draining properly. You can get replacments at most autopart stores.

Also check for any exposed contacts, when I installed the Xtec kit in our suv, i merely tapped into the headlight wiring harness, and covered up the actual H11 connectors in case something bad happened. Well the tape I used to cover the H11's came off and left the contacts exposed. I cleaned things up, retaped and fixed the exact problem you experienced. However keep this in mind it was was on a Lexus. Best of luck.

So you took out the passenger side and install on the driverside and it worked? But switching just the bulb would have the same result of a dead passenger HID?

Since you did stated that you ruled out the Ballast or even the bulb. It could only be that you have an open ground. Check your stock harness (not the Ellipsoid) and try to trace it. Having a Bentley would help you on this endeavor/quest to trace to the source.

Good luck

thanx for the ideas....if possible please make them as specific as possible as to where these items are located. The previous owner installed this kit so I have no idea what was involved or even what is what when I'm looking at it. Thanks again.

Could you explain more about the "previous" owner installation? Did he install anything else on the car beside the HID/Ellipsoid?

What you can do to test the stock harness is by reverse installation? What's reverse Installation? Well, what you do is put back the stock headlight, you know the crapy plastic OE headlights. See if that works, if not, then you have a bad stock harness which could be an open ground.

If you don't know the color of the ground wire, its Brown.
