The troubleshooting tips on V1's site says the following:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trouble: Numerous false alerts.
Response: Other super-heterodyne radar detectors mounted in same vehicle. Do not operate Valentine One in close proximity to other detectors.
This also applies to detectors in other vehicles affecting (falsing) a V1 when close together.
Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I thought I read that site very thoroughly but I definitely missed reading that. And what do you know - I was getting tons, TONS of bogies around every business district. I wouldn't call them false alarms, since it was picking up the usual store emissions, but it was just way too much. I'll have to do one and then the other I guess.

So wait the 8500 wasn't falsing, it wasn't doing anything right?
I just did the same thing, compared a freinds V1 to my 8500. V1 was mounted at the bottom while the 8500 was at the top.
V1 picked up police way sooner (enough to slow down from 50 to the 35 posted speed limit) before the 8500 even sounded. V1 also falsed much less. Also when it did false or sound you knew where the source was.
Wish I had spent the extra $100
The 8500 was working - it picked a few of the false signals, just far fewer than the V1, and the weird part - far fewer than it used to just by itself. I am not sure I picked up any real police radar yet, believe it or not it's not that common along any of the routes I travel in daily commuting, errands, etc.
If I head up Jim Powell's way though, it's radar everywhere you go! :95
