This procedure works for our US engines, but maybe it can help with your engine. If there are screws holding it on, then take those off. Our cars have 4 bolts holding the WP on. If you have already done this and can't yank it out, there maybe some threaded tabs on the sides where you can see-saw it out by inserting the correct screws and tightening each side a little at a time. gl.

HI
If you can wait until tues or wed I can contact my friendly Indie who just did mine under warranty. He said the standard book time was 2.5 hours so it maybe a little involved. What pump supplier are you using ? I used the BMW one (warranty) which was much more expensive than Europarts.
If it's like the US S50/S52 engines, there are 4 threaded portions at about 2, 4, 8 and 10 o'clock around the WP. Use a long(~40-50mm) M6 bolt in 2 of them and slowly tighten each one to get the pump off the block.
Lube up o-ring on new pump with antifreeze and get it in far enough to catch the WP bolt threads and pull it back on the opposite way.

You are correct your EVO uses a very different water pump than the S50 or S52 engines here in the States. With the increased power of the EVO, BMW knew they needed increased water flow for it. I would try to find a Euro repair manual. Maybe ask a repair shop. Keep in mind they did not make a lot of these cars so it may be hard to find info on it.

On realoem.com you can look a the parts diagram there it looks a bit different from the us version. It looks like the thermostat and housing are bolted to the top of the water pump and there is a hose out the back of the pump.

yes i have looked on realoem. the hose that comes at the back is not a hose it's a metal pipe. not sure how this comes apart. it leads to the block. if i have to unbolt it at the block it looks like a big job because it is behind the throttle bodies. i'm hoping there is an easier way

HI
I have the pump taken out of my Evo in front of me. It is held on by 5 bolts
There are two holes under the thermostat housing that have o rings or something like that in them. These will mate up with pipes or spigots in the block. Richard of M40 Care Care says that these are likely to be what is holding the pump on. Unfortunately he says its difficult to get it to come away due to the sealant gunge on the pipes. Youve got to keep working at it. My replacement pump came from BWM at about £170. I understand EuroParts do one for £117.

This water pump looks a lot different to the one shown on Realoem.com !
I,ll try to photo it. Better still Ill go down to Richards and check it out.
He may have given me the wrong one.

Yup. He gave me one from an 840! However he says the problem is still the
same just pulling the pump off the slip rings. Hope this helps.
I think he was a bit embarrased. Anyway he,s going to fit an x-brace hes got for me as compensation.

a while back i attempted to remove the old water pump. however i could not get the fan off. i tried everything but everytime i tried turning the fan the pulley moved as well. i came up with an idea. i made a flat metal bar with a hole drilled near the bottom. i unscrewed one of the bolts that holds the pulley on, put the bar in place and put the bolt through the bar and into the pulley. now i could hold the pulley. the fan came off and i could remove the water pump. the pump is held on with six bolts (3 long, 3 short). it came off together with the thermostat housing easy enough. thanks again. hope this is of use to someone in the future.
