Who here has ever got an exhaust fix it ticket for their m? I know it's less likely for us to get these tickets then, that's say a honda, but i was just curious to know if this kinda stuff happens to bimmers frequently, or at all.

I don't have an M3 (yet) but in my camaro I ran for about 6 months with headers, no cats, and the SLP loudmouth exhaust which is basically straightpipes and i was never hassled. Kinda of a pain in the A$$ to get fix it tickets but I'm sure you can fight it. I don't think exhaust on an M3 can be that bad to get a ticket for it.

exhausts usually come with CARB stickers, right. So you should be fine

I think you're wrong here. Anything after the cat is free, emissions-wise, and doesn't need CARB or EPA certification. So none of the cat-back exhaust systems come with a CARB sticker.
Anyway, if the cops are going to hassle you about an exhaust, they'll tag you for noise, not emissions, so CARB has nothing at all to do with it.

only stipulation on the catback is that it has to have a muffling device of some sort and it can't be more than a certain decibel.

A friend of mine was driving my 318ti and got pulled over by Campbell police...asked her how her cats were.
She invited him to crawl under the car and check 'em out, but he just looked at them closely with his flashlight. After a few more minutes of hassle, he sent her on her way.
Kinda picky, the Stromoung really isn't that loud anyway...she says she wasn't doing anything like full throttle...

i think cops in California are a lot more strict with exhaust sound. I don't even want to know what would happen if they checked my car in the future with aa track pipes....

I wouldn't worry about it, driving a BMW. If you're driving like an ass, or zipping around on a Saturday nite where the runs go down at 1am, then yes, you'll have a greater chance of being pulled over and obtaining a fix-it ticket. By remaining courteous to the cops, you won't get a ticket bcuz of the car you drive. [But then again, I live in Carlsbad]

I got a ticket when I had a Dual DTM cat-back in Hermosa Beach, CA. It was pretty loud. It cost me 75 bucks.
I later switched to a supersprint cat-back. Much quieter and has the same performance. The tips are much more subtle.
