I was wondering if anyone here has any extensive experience or knowledge about the possible of anodizing rims.
I am interesting in a different color lip (possibly red?). More or less just have the outer lip a painted a different color. I see that a lot of JDM cars have this type of styling however no many Euro wheels I have seen have any of these options. Is is possible for me to get a local wheels shop to do this for me? has anyone had any experience painting/powdercoating/anodizing rims?
Sorry if this comes off sounding like a newbish worthless question :help

I haven't heard of any place that will anodize (but then again, I never looked)...but i can suggest not to have the lip painted. painting the lip would be the last choice as far as durablity goes. the lip is suffers most of the abuse when changing tires.
powdercoating is pretty tough...i had some wheels powdercoated a while back...they went through 3 tire changes, with no problems.
There is a local shop that will powdercoat the entire wheel for $75
my friend used to anodize, and I saw him submerge the items for the process; so i don't know how it would work if you just wanted the lip done.
you may have to be able to remove the lip from your wheel???

You can mask when anodizing but I'm not sure how easy it is. Also before anodizing if you want it to look good you'd need to dismount tire, make the metal PERFECT, then dip the entire thing in an acid solution, run current through it, dye it then seal it. It's a pretty big ordeal and wouldn't be cheap.
Whereas if you painted you could sand, mask and paint for about 5 bucks and touch up as necessary.
Last option would be powdercoating. Less work than anodizing and less money, similar strength probably but it wouldn't look as cool, but much more doable and your average powdercoater will be able to fit a wheel in his oven, not sure if your average anodizer could fit a wheel in his acid bath

nice, I just wish someone would make a damn black w/ red lip wheel for the e36 m3. No creativity in the BMW scene.
I'm going to get flamed for that ahahahahha:smilielaz
