Ok there has been alot of questions going around asking about the differences of the M20B25 (325i) and the M20B27 (325e). Can anyone post some info about the differences between the horsepower numbers, toque numbers, and also whats the main mechanical differences between the engines? Ive heard that the "i"s have a different and better flowing cylinder head along with a different ECU that gives the extra 50 horsepower, while the Eta("e") has a longer stroke which makes so much torque. Ive done some research on this and this is some info that i found. All the info i found below is from R3vlimited...
325i/is/ix - M20B25.........
--2.5 Liter (2494cc)
--Bore 84mm
--Stroke 75mm
--HP 171@5800rpm
--Torque 160@4300rpm
325e/es - M20B27.........
--2.7 Liter (2693cc)
--Bore 84mm
--Stroke 81mm
--HP 121@4250rpm
--Torque 166@3250rpm
Also If anyone has info on converting Eta engines to "i" engines and vice versa please post. I would like some information on "i" cams/complete heads being swapped onto eta blocks...AND....Eta cranks/rods into "i" engines. What modifications must be done? Also post info on ECUs (what ECU must be used for "i" engine with eta crank and what ECUs must be used for Eta engines with "i" head) Which of the two combinations will make a better "327i"????. Ive heard that the "super Eta" is a factory combination of the "i" and Eta but i dont see how when the super eta still has low HP numbers? anyone Please post information on "327i" set-ups .....thanks
-hope this thread can answer some questions

As far as converting a 325e into a 325i, it would just be easier to get a 325i engine and swap it in.

I wouldn't considder 6 extra footpounds "so much torque"...
but that's just me.

Well for a engine that has 121hp and putting out 166ft/lbs of torque imo i consider it "alot of torque" compared to engine putting out 171hp and 160ft/lbs of torque,.....and i said "so much torque" NOT "so much MORE torque" ......theres a difference

Yeah, that's why people with etas think they are fast when in actuality...

Yeaa true the Etas are slow in actuality...gosh i wish i had that extra 50 horsepower that the "i" has. Then i wont be sloooww anymore ill just be slow =)

the way Im doing it to my 89 325i is:
eta crankshaft
eta connecting rods
super eta '88 pistons
m50 injectors
284 schrick camshaft
harder valve springs by schrick
alpina b3 chip
all new seals and rocker arms
new oil pump.

No i have an "e" but Modded a bit. It has an exhaust and The previous owner claims to have put a cam in and chipped it. Is their really a huge noticable difference between the two 325i and 325e??

I owned both, and when i drove the "i" first I was laughing. Its a powerhouse compare to the eta.

Yes. I'm on my third e30 right now. My first car was an 87 325: eta. My second car was a 90 325i. I chipped and put a 4.10lsd into my 90 and it was like night and day.

So basicly people who have the Eta engine are doomed and theirs no way out you must have an "i" to be cool?....well if i was to do any swap id go with M50 or M52 =/
