So I decided to get a software download from dinan for my car. On the way their, I wanted to know if I didn't already have some software in their already (I bought the car used and it had a K&N airfilter, which made me think it might have had other modifications). So I hit the gas, and sure enuf I was soon doing about 145 mph (at a race-track of course ... :laugh ).

The dinan guys diagnosed the car to NOT have dinan software and since I could go over 130 mph, declared that the car *obviously* had some software on it.

My question: If it ain't Dinan what the hell is it? Shark? How the hell can I figure this one out?

PS: There is a white BMW sticker on the computer ... if that means anything.

No, the dealership where this car was maintained said something about privacy, which I can understand.

However, according to ECIS, the dealer should be able to tell this from the DME on the car. Will try that on Monday.

you can ask the dealer to contact the owner directly for you:)

Stock speed limiter is set to ~137. Your speedo indicated 145, which is well within what BMW thinks is tolerable for speedo error. The BMW spec is -0 (speedo can't read lower than the speed you're travelling), +10%, so it can read up to 10% higher than your actual speed.

Probably your best way to see if you have aftermarket performance software is to see where the rev limiter cuts in, since the tach is usually more accurate than the speedometer, and the tach won't be thrown off by things like different size tires, etc.

If it's software like Conforti's, the dealer's Modic won't be able to tell whether it's stock or aftermarket.
