With the change to an 027 AFM-19lb-K&N-Heat shield job, is it also necessary to have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? advantages & disadvantages?

If you are going to change the AFM and injectors - you should just get the FPR. If its money that's holding you back from getting the FPR - then there are some nice ones floating around eBay for $35 + Shipping.

AFPR is a complete waste of money. The kids saying you need one are only fooling themselves.

If I do get an adjustable FPR, do I need to install a guage like the guy in the davelength.net/car/bigsix.html write up did? It's not so much the price of the regulator but installing the guage as I really want to keep the interior as stock as possible and having guages sticking out where there no supposed to bothers me.

Or is the guage part of the setup and I'm screwed w/o it?

So do I need an adjustable FPR or just a FPR? What's on my m20 now??

there are adjustable fprs without gauges. it just makes tuning easier because you don't have to remove the fuel line to check the pressure.

Why would you need to check the fuel pressure? Can't you just "set it and forget it"?

How would you know what it is set at in the first place?

Either way you DO NOT NEED AN AFPR. The stock one is ideal for all NA applications. If you had a grasp of how Motronic works you would see why having an AFPR is completely useless.

^hi jordan. nice to meet you.^

explain to us how motronic works so that we may have a taste of what it is like to be a bmw mechanic.

one more thing: http://www.davelength.net/car/bigsix.html
what about his writeup where he has to adjust the the fuel pressure to get things to work nicely?

So what does my car have? FPR? Or nothing? Not a mechanic, don't know. I understand I won't need an AFPR, but what about FPR? (what is NA applications?)

you dont NEED to have an AFPR, just install the afm and injectors
and the ecu "should" be able adapt to the changes. (i think)

An FPR is already present in your vehicle. It's part of the fuel system on e30s. 325i's have a 3.0 bar fpr, and e's have a 2.5 bar fpr. It's the black stubby thing with two tubes coming out of it that's situated on the top front end of the engine, at the beginning of the injector fuel rail. You can't miss it.

Oh, and NA means naturally aspirated. The other 'side' is called FI (forced induction, i.e. turbos, superchargers)

Hope that helped.

Yes it did help. Thanks so much. If the motronic can handle it, I won't waste my money on an adjustable one. If I was racing, I might.
