Hi,

I am looking to upgrade the exhaust on my 1997 M3 from the stock version. I don't care too much for noisy (extreme) exhausts but do care about the performance over "looks".

Any suggestions?

Do a search, there is a ton of threads about this.

except the search function seems to have been hosed a bit since the site crashed. I've done some recent searches of keywords that I know should yield greater results.

That said, here's a thread:

If you are only looking for performance, dont wast your money. You will be luck to get 5 hp out of one, and most will set you back $600+. Much better gains from a cold air intake.

I have the SS SS w/DTM tips and while the tips are a little toooooo long for my taste I've lived with it because I bought it new for $500 which is dirt cheap. I really like the sound, especially after it warms up. My car's a cabrio and I can hear that purr over my left shoulder with the top up.:)

There's one for sale in the buy/sell forum, follow link, California seller, maybe you can work something out.

Since it's performance over looks you shouldn't care about the tips but here's a pic just in case:

Here's a basic rundown on loudness from most quiet to LOUD: Supersprint, AA, UUC TSE, Stromug, B&B and Rogue are both pretty loud.

There was a comparison on exhausts done recently on a stock 95 M3 and the Supersprint made the most HP/torque gains- about 9HP, which is almost what you get with an intake. The AA had the best gains in the middle of the powerband. and the Supersprint made the best gains up top.

Get an exhaust for looks and sound.

If you want a badass exhaust system that is the loudest in the market right now and has a unique sound to it, get an EISENMANN Race System:

www.eisenhaus.com

If you don't want it to be that loud, they also offer a HIGH and SPORT version.

Here are my pics and vids:

How about a Remus? Are these pretty loud? What about this Fox brand from germany?

Well... I can safely say that If i got an exhaust, my girlfriend/ soon to be fiance would probably hang me . She's not keen on driving up to a nice restaraunt for dinner being loud as *&^%. Quite frankly I cant justify spending 500+ on an exhaust when there are still other things that can be done... like tint, stereo mods, pullies, etc etc.

Best exhaust by far is the AA GEN 3 baby!!
