hummmmm

better to get a 2000 528i with 30k miles

or get a 97 or 98 540i with 60k miles?

wifey is leaning for newer and less miles

she bases this on the fact 30k miles on a "normal" car is a lot

but we all know on a bimmer it isnt that many

i lean to the older 540, but she wants newer

havent test driven any yet but getting close

any happy 528i drivers? I know there are happy 540 drivers!!

I have driven both a 540 and 528 - '95's and I would have to say that 4 liters is better than 2.8 :D If you will be driving it the most... I would say 540. But obviously, U need to drive both to be sure. :) That V8 is so smooth :buttrock

I'm not a fan the of 2.8L motors. I almost got a '98 540 instead of the M3. That was a SWEET drive. It has SO much torque and is quiet but not out of touch like a Lexus. You also get more standard stuff in the 540. If you can wait a year, the prices should drop as soon as the E60's start hitting the streets... unless they look like the new 7-series.

I just KNEW nobody would vote for the 528i vs the 540

but alas it will be her car, with (dare I say it) a slushbox for a tranny....

she can't/wont shift

she isnt what I would call a "car" person

but i have at least talked her into a "blau mit weiss"

I just have to make SURE we test drive the 540 FIRST

then drive the 528 and she will (MUST) go for the torque of the V8

even if it is a year older

ladies are SO obsessed with AGE

She opted for a '02 525 vs. '99 540. She has NO complaints.

Many have said that the six in the 5 is better balanced than the v8 and handles better. The steering feel is also better.

40k is a lot? NO way! I consider a car to start to have high mileage past 150k, if it is a bimmer.....Jeez.

Auto :(

540 :)

I think it is cool that while both my mom and dad are as about anti-car people as you can have (my dad at least, my mom can be kind of ok with enjoying driving), they both appreciate manual transmissions. Thus, each of us has a car with a 5-speed manual. And, coincidentally, a 1.8 or 2.0 L inline four with 126-134 hp. Kind of weird. Oh well, my car is the lightest, AND has the most power. Not to mention RWD.
