Hey, its finally warming up here in CT and autox will be opening soon. I have heavy 18s on my car now... cant autox in that. So i wanted to know what you guys thought were the best, lightest, 'affordable' wheel and tire combo for autox-ing. pics would be a super plus.
thanks!

What class are you running in? A lot of classes limit your wheel sizes.

Kinesis K27, 17lbs...... but they're expensive. I found some used.

CCW classics are also a nice set of wheels, but again a little expensive. You can find them used though.
I would suggest finding a set of Kosei K1's or the shuk wheels previously mentioned, or the SSR comp wheels. Check the wheels classified section, lots of good deals in there.

being a rookie you need more seat time than mods. good wheels and tires help, but you don't need superlight wheels. the kosei 17x8.5's are good as well as the asa ar1 in 17x9.

btw, the s52 swap puts you out of DSP and in SM.

This is probably one of the biggest mistakes done by any newbie in SCCA Autox.

You don't need mods to race and to be competitive.

Take it easy the first 2 years. All that is mandatory in those 2 years is HAVE FUN. Get your car mechanically sound, pump up the tire pressure above 40, take out EVERYTHING loose inside the car, put on that helmet and DRIVE.

That's it.

And regarding mods...a guy ran his bone stock e36 M3 (on v710's mind you) this weekend at a local AX and took FTD. He beat out a heavily prepped Carrera RS and an bunch of other FAST drivers. I however, sucked balls, but haven't ever had so much fun being so slow in a car. BTW, this was my first AX in my e36 M3.

I like the K1 Racing wheel in the 17X8.5 at 199.00 per wheel.

Hey a noble! I saw one at HMRC a couple weeks ago. Highly modded M400. Very fast car, he was running GT3 in a test and tune day. The owner, Jeff, is from wichitaw, ks and was claiming 517HP. I believe it... it was seriously fast. Nice guy too.

With those mods, good luck in Street Modified.

Tell him to drop in and visit the US owners forum if you ever run into him again. :)

Bingo.

But to answer the question about light wheels, the OZ Superleggera 17x8 ain't bad at 17.4lbs each. I notice a difference in acceleration from my (now bent) MM11-2 heavy wheels, to not-as-heavy stock DS1 17x7.5, to these Superlegs. I really like them. Of course, they're discontinued and only 8" wide, but hell, I like em.

Thanks for th advice, i probably should just shut up and drive, after all fast cars are meant for the drag stripe, fast drivers are meant for the track.
But next week ill just ride shotgun in my friends evo, 275s soon and some raw power makes for a good time and gives a newbie to auto xing a little experience.

i would go with the kosei k1 racing. they are 17x8.5 and are about 17lbs. they look great on e36s
