I have a coworker in my office who is an avid mustang enthusiast and there has been a blow up on all the mustang forums. The following message was posted by a mechanic at a ford dealership on a forum and the owner of the car was on the forum:

It Was Waaaaaaaaaay Cool
MAN IT WAS WAY COOL, DROVE A '03 COBRA VERT TODAY THAT WAS IN THE SHOP, ME AND ANOTHER TECH TOOK IT OUT AND DROVE IT, DROVE HER HARD, 6 SPEED TRANNY, WE HIT 140 MPH REAL QUICK, TALK ABOUT POWER. NOT THAT WE DO IT HERE ALL THE TIME, BUT I JUST HAD TO RUN IT, IT WAS CALLING MY NAME... THE POWER IT HAS IN UNREAL, YOU JUST NEED TO GET OUT AND TEST DRIVE ONE TODAY, BY THE WAY, THE CUSTOMER'S COMPLAINT WAS LACK OF POWER AND POOR GAS MILEAGE, WHAT A CROCK... NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT IS OWNED BY A FEMALE, SHE EVEN SAID IT WAS DYNOED AT A SHOP AND THEY TOLD HER THAT THE CONVERTORS WERE TOO HOT AND THE FUEL TRIM WAS WAY OFF. I HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER, FUEL TRIM WAS NORMAL, CAT TEMP WAS OK, NO CODES, AND IT RAN GREAT. GO FIGURE.. OH YEAH, SHE EVEN TOLD THE SERVICE WRITER TO MAKE SURE THAT NO "PUNK" DRIVES HER CAR, WELL SINCE I AM THE MUSTANG SPECIALIST HERE AT THE DEALER, I GUESS I AM "THE PUNK", ALL THE MORE TO DRIVE HER '03 COBRA VERT AND SEE WHAT ITS GOT.. HEHE HOPE SHE DIDNT HAVE A HIDDEN CAMERA IN THAT CAR...... GET THIS, HER PLATES SAY "**** **"

This guy even wrote down her plates on the post. He has been fired and she is suing the dealership b/c they will not offer any extended warranty or help in case any damage occurred.

Unbelievable! Think about this next time a garage tells you to leave it for a few hours and come back later to pick it up

welcome to a load of dookie being spread about. I'd be willing to guess that this guy is 100% full of it.

further commentary: I expect the dealer to throughly test my car, I know the tech, I trust him, hell, we swap rides at club events sometimes.... when I bring the car in and tell him that there is a tire imbalance or something that is making the car unstable at high speeds, I EXPECT him to bring the car to op-temp and hammer it down the road to at least 100, as he knows damn well the car sees those speeds regularly. maybe I'm the anomaly, and being in such a small market and with a dealer where of the 3 techs available only 1 ever touches my car, I likely am.

but still, get to know your service writer, meet the tech and listen to his input as you will learn a lot about your car. It has paid off in HUGE dividends for me... hell they even look after my mom's benz when it comes in and keep me informed on its status....

seeing as how most dealers make a killing off of "fixed operations" (service), they should be specializing in just that.... SERVICE. I know that I get my money's worth, and everyone I talk to expects the same of them. give them a chance to meet your expectations.

btw: the sexist attitude of the "specialist" is going to cost him his job VERY quickly.

I am not worried. When I take my cars in, the Parts Manager keeps an eye on it the whole time. I trust him as we go back 15+ years. He can see the bay they are working on through a window from his desk, and they have to ask him for permission if they are going to 'test' that newly installed part.

dasMafia- it may be a load of "dookie". I tend to be a skeptical person myself, but my co-worker that brought this to my attention was on another forum when he saw the lady, that was the owner of the mustang, post the "mechanic's" statement and asked another member what she should do. That is what started the mass response and she followed up by saying that the "mechanic" had been fired and she was contemplating a lawsuit.

MDriver315- It's definitely nice when you have an inside person watching out for you.

it still sounds fishy and just too obvious... is it possible, yes, btu good god how stupid do you have to be to admit to all that... I mean, really???

anywho, it is a problem that comes up, but i can assure you that 99% of the dealers in the world keep a far tighter reign on people.

Yea, but you don't have to be incredibly bright either to be a dealership mechanic (no offense to any member). Just a love of automobiles and the desire to be payed to do what you love. In some cases, just a desire to have a job. But, as with all jobs, the more intelligence/ability to learn you have, the better you may perform the job.
