I was thinking of adding the smoked black taillights to my 323 and was checking the legalities. Anyone know?

if they are the presmoked tail lights that you buy then you shouldn't have any problems... if you smoke them yourself, just make sure the lights are still visible when they light up.. aka turn signals actually light up and you can clearly see them etc even with the tint... cops shouldn't give you any trouble as long as they show.
Dunno the exact laws tho,

It's legal if the reflectors in the taillights can be seen (kinda like running shoes). Otherwise they are illegal.

Alright well, looks like I'll be buying them premade rather than trying to do it myself. Thanks for the help guys.

Careful, the premade ones are pretty lame. Do a search on the smoked lights, a bunch have pics and people generally dont' keep them long...
I was thinking about this route too as I have a black M3.
Personally I am going to buy a spare set of tails and tint them with tinting paint and a coat of lacquer. That way I can get as dark or as light as I want.
