Tried this on another board and no luck...

Getting my car back from bodyshop after little accident that destroyed both driver side wheels & tires plus minor body damage.

After much negotiating, insurance co. might spring for complete set of tires instead of just two (cool!!).

Question: Would you replace with the same Nitto 455 Extreme
Performance that were on car, or go with Kumho 712's?
Other, more expensive tires are not an option.

Thanks for the help!!

Sorry about your accident. . .

I had Nitto 555s (step up from the 455s?) for awhile before I switched to 712s. Performance was fine with the 712s - would be my choice.

That is my thinking all things being equal. I'd love S0-3's or Pilot Sports, but that ain't happening if they pay for it. the 455's really look aggressive, but suck traction-wise. I hope they choose to go with the Kumhos.

Many people say the 712's sucks pretty bad. I have a set of 555 on my car right now, but I have only had them on there for a day now.

"Suck pretty bad" is pretty nebulous. Although dry traction isn't on par with the big boys (S-03, Pilots, MX, et al), it is pretty decent. The 712s are also very likeable at the limit, offering predictable rotation.

I have not had a set personally, so I do not really know. That is just what I heard.

I've heard nothin' but good things about 712s --- apparently they wear real well, compared to some other higher-performance tires --- and they're grippy in the dry, better than most in the wet, predictable breakaway --- overall they're s'posed to be extremely good value for 100 ea right now from Tire Rack. I'm about to buy a pair to put on some 17s, in 235/40 --- oh, they're also s'posed to be a li'l less wide than other 235s. There's a guy who started a thread on his 712s --- have a look around. Cheers,
