'95 M3 Head on a '92 325is Block?

Can it be done? My cousin's motor is burning a little oil when cold (probably the valve train) and he is looking into a rebuilt M3 head for sale. Can this head be mounted to his block? What kind of mods need to be done?

His engine is non-VANOS, I assume the m3 had that technology- would that be a problem?

I'm pretty sure you can't put a VANOS head on to a non-VANOS block. Kind of a bummer really.
