View Full Version : I had my first accident last night...

Last night after it rained and the streets were still wet I had an accident at the worst turn ever. The turn is known for low traction and ive seen so many accidents at it, and with the addition of rain it was an accident waiting to happen. My car did a full 180 and landed on the other side of the road facing the forward direction, with the rear right wheel over the curb. I proceeded to see if it would still move and it did..to an extent. I slowly made my way to the closest parking lot but didnt continue because it was making this horrible thumping noise. I asked my friend to get out and help me push it since it would no longer move(with the clutch fully out, all it did was make a thumping noise but the car and the wheels weren't moving at all). We finally got it into the parking lot and found the wheel to be totally turned in(I beleive its called camber or caster?).
Here are the pics, thank god there was no damage to the body, but who knows what happend to the wheel or the drivetrain since now even when I try going forward the car doesn't :(

2nd pic
Since it was a friday night there are no places around me that are open to look at it. I guess it will be sitting there until monday...
Anyone know what broke? Why did the car at first go, and then it wouldn't anymore?

Holy crap!!! That really sucks man. The camber is in the positive direction. I don't know what to say...I there's something wrong with the powertrain. It doesn't look like a cheap fix either. For the time being, you should maybe switch to your spare. Have you taken a look unter the car???

Me and my dad looked under the car and all you can see is a bent wheel. I asked him should we jack it up but he didn't say too. He knows more about cars than me so I will trust him.

Wow...
That really sucks..:-( :-(
If i can bring a little livelyhood in: Time to think about 17 or 18"s?
Good luck on fixing it..Hopefully nothing is screwed up too bad

Looks like the lower control arm is bent, and of course the wheel. Impossible to say what else is dead, but overall, it does not look too bad.
Good luck on the repair, and be careful out there...

Welcome to the club :( :)
Such is life....I'm sure the garage will straighten it out. Important thing is that you or your friend weren't hurt, and that you learn from the mistake. Yes, a mistake was made - called - "SPEED". Take it easy on the roads when they're slick.

Get it towed to a reputable place and move on from there.

i would jack it up, remove the wheel, and take an initial look at the damage myself. good thing you didnt do any body damage, to yourself, your friend, and the car.

I've heard that those sport package wheels are soft. Can anyone confirm this? :dunno

I'd say you definetly did some damage to the control arm. Same thing happened to my friend.
Good luck, hopefully you can have everything fixed soon.

Maybe the differential or the right side axle (output shaft) was damaged also, which would possibly stop the car from moving ....

Well today they finally flat-bedded it out to the BMW dealer and from what the mechanic could see it was definetly the control arm that was bent. I had to get going but I'm sure there were many more things that needed replacing on them. He is supposed to give me a call soon and said it COULD be done by friday *crosses fingers*.

It's gonna be extreme expensive I bet.

Even valve stem caps for these cars are expensive. However bad it is, glad the damage wasn't worse and that your OK!

Wait... the fact that you're okay matters? Uh oh... it didn't matter to me when I crashed. I was all bleeding and crap, and I went to find a phone to call a TOW TRUCK. Not an ambulance, a TOW TRUCK. I must be nuts.
