I just got done cleaning out my 94 325is. I go inside to start it and it turns over like twice but didnt start. It kind of sounded like it was going to start so i kind of stopped pushing the key to start. But it didnt. Then i went to start it again and now the starter is spinning but i dont hear the engine turning over. I dont feel it turning the actual engine. I can hear it but its a different sound then when it was actually starting the engine.

Any ideas????

Common problem. Check your ecu to make sure its not in water. Water can leak down in where the ecu is and flood it. If you dont now where the ecu is its on the passanger side firewall, you have to get in there from under the hood.

Ecu is dry.... :( I have to work tommorow. This is my only car. I just spent 450 dollars getting the door handle fixed and i am OUT of money. Any more suggestions. THe starters turning quite fast now. But again the engine isnt moving.

It just whirs real fast and ever few seconds you can feel it sort of turn the engine a TAD bit. Not enough to turn it over you know what i mean?

Well i have researched and i see that a starter is a job i simply cannot do. So how many hours will a mechanic charge for this? Would you guess?

Starters on these cars arent fun to do. Not sure how many hours. 3 - 4?

So your car worked fine, you wash it, and it stoped working?

I didnt use water. I just wiped the leather and vaccumed it.

Yes the car never had a starting problem in the past. Always worked fine. I went to start it now and the starters whirring.

I want to try and bump start it. I pulled into the garage nose first so im gonna have to bump it in reverse. Is that ok?

Well does this sound like a starter to you? Or does it sound like something else. I mean the starter is turning. But its like its not grabbing....

It is definitely a starter. If you can here the starter spinning, but it's clear it's not really doing anything to the engine, that's it.

Cost me about $250 including the starter to get it replaced...

Ok... More really bad news. I went out and tried starting and it did start but it was running terrible. Labored to get it up to 4k rpms and i let off and it died....

Check engine light came on and it wont start again.

its not giving me any codes..... 1444

I never park this car in a garage and i parked it in a heated garage last night. Im just sort of spitballing here. Could that possibly have made a difference?

As for the running bad and dying, check the boot after the MAF for any cracks or holes.

As for the starting, is it a manual? You may be stuck with push starting until you get a starter.

Try and have your camshaft position sensor and your crankshaft position sensor tested. If either of these sensors fail, the engine will not start, but you should get a CEL. Doesn't hurt to check though.

It's not a fried DME because you wouldn't have a CEL in the first place. The CEL does come on during the bulb check, right? If the DME is fried, you wont' see it during the bulb check.

Thats weird it does this... Im trying to think of a problem but Im kinda drunk and tired. Maybe something will come to me tomorrow or anything from the other guys here. Do what heifetz17 said about the sensors. Is 1444 a code it gave you? How hot is the heated garage?
