My oil light is taking a little too long to go off when I start my engine, and it flickered a few times when the rpm's got below 1000, so I want to check the banjo bolts for the camshaft oiling. I still don't have a repair manual, so I was hoping somebody could tell me what the torque spec is on those. I figure I'll do a valve adjustment while I have the valve cover off, so I also need to know what the valve clearance spec is supposed to be. Thanks in advance!

interesting...
my E24 is displaying the oil light for 2-3 seconds starting a couple weeks ago. Only happens on a cold start. Never has done that before and it's bugging me...
anyway - the torque for the banjo bolts is: 8-10 ft lbs.
intake and exhaust are set to 0.012" on a cold engine.
I drilled the heads of my banjo bolts so I could install safety wire as a precaution against the bolt loosening over time.

Thanks, now I just have to get my Mercedes running so I can get it out of the garage and pull this car in. I was thinking about putting some safety wire on those banjo bolts, but I will probably have to wait until next time I pull the valve cover off to do that. I don't imagine this is something that happens very quickly; my engine has 182500 miles on it and I'm guessing this will be the first time they've had to be tightened.

for piece of mind,it's worth pulling the valve cover if only to check the bolts.if they are loose, you will end up losing the cam.dealer replacement bolts supposedly have a drop of lock-tite on them to prevent backing out.

I'm pretty much certain they are the problem. The oil light is coming on more and more often while I'm driving and it's getting worse way too fast for it to be the oil pump. I've parked the car for now, until I can pull the valve cover.
