Consider replacing your center load bearing at the same time since you'll be dropping the driveshaft anyway.

Not really. To change the guibo you don't have to drop the exhaust. You need to drop the exhaust to change the bearing.
This would be a good opportunity to do that though.

I'd say about 2 hours labor would be fair.

just buy a new one. i bought mine for around $55 new at a bmw shop in my area. you dont want to have to replace it prematurely because you put in a used one. you also dont have to drop the driveshaft to do this replacement as i disconnected what was needed to push it back.

You don't need to drop the exhaust to do either job, FYI :)

Hey you guys, i read on RE website that using an E46 M3 guibo is a good upgrade to us regular e36's. Here is the link: http://www.rogueengineering.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=GUIBO. GL

if it goes super bad then the driveshaft starts to shake really bad and then you need to get a new driveshaft. also if you leave it to long i think it might also fuck up your diff as well

Yes, the driveshaft has to be dropped, but I did the job myself without dropping the exhaust.
You can remove the driveshaft without removing the exhaust.

nope. i did it without dropping anything. just pulled it back. we're trying to save him from extra work if hes doing it himself.

That article is not very specific on the compatibilty of a e46 M guibo with e36 cars. The same guibo will not fit all e36 models, the 318, the 323,325,328 and the M all use different guibos. This is what i've been told by several sources, i havent actually installed a guibo myself.
But do you really need an upgraded unit? mine has lasted 110k miles already. I guess if you drive it really hard...

There's no way to change the flex disc without dropping the driveshaft. You don't have to completely remove it from the car, but you have to unbolt it from the diff, as well as unbolt the center bearing. Then you can lower the back of the driveshaft enough to clear the diff so you can pull it back and work the flex disc out.
All you have to do is unbolt the muffler brackets and remove the little rubber mount about the middle of the exhaust. The weight of the exhaust will lower it (without the muffler supported) enough to get the heat shield out and access the driveshaft. Don't just let the exhaust hang, though. Let it lower enough to clear the shield, but still support it so you don't damage or bend the pipes.
