I'm thinking of buying a 1995 325i manual. It has 127000 miles. Is there anything that I should watch out for in a car that age. Should I replace anything right away? How long do they run before they start to cause headaches with repairs and etc. ? The car is at an auction so I can't ask the former owner anything - kind-of going into this blind. The car looks really clean and looks like it has been well kept from what I can tell - especially the interior. Looks like someone took good care of it. I am 20 years old and in college so money is somewhat tight. Would this car cost me too much to maintain? How much should I expect to spend on maintenance and repairs in a year? Any input would be appreciated.

I know I am in the same boat as you 22 in college still (almost done 1yr) and was worred about that as well. 127K is not bad I hear these cars run well into the 200K with no probs. The thing is like any car got to keep up on maintance of the vehical change oil and the normal thing. I just bought my car about 4months ago now and the only thing i had to do was replace a coolant hose. The thing you should watch out for is the water pump, if it has not been changed you should do that because the one from the factory the insides are made of plastic and will break, the new ones all have metal. Thats really all I recall to really be aware of with thse cars. Also you will learn that you can get all the parts for this car online which will cost alot less then most dealers sell them for also. Goodl uck with your car.

127,000 is really nothing, as long as the car was maintained. I would be careful buying from an auction. Just make sure the suspension is ok. If its a car from the South, it would be a good buy. Engine should have no leaks. They are not very expensive to maintain, as long as you find a private BMW mechanic.
