Yah I've done some searching and found some good, but vary..ing :) opinions. I am looking at a nice set of 18x8.5" rims for my '96 328is on stock suspension w/non rolled fenders. I've seen such sizes as 245/35 or 235/40 all around for a good tire size. I am not necessarily wanting the same tire all around, but at the same time not against it.
So to all those experts in tire/wheel size combinations, offer me some insight please. ;)
Thanks guys, I am so looking foward to my 3-Series coming out of the shop on Friday, and I am going to treat myself to some new rims/tires in the meantime! :buttrock
Well. . .you'll get another set of varying opinions here. ;-) . . .
235/40 all around - although a bit tall - would be a fair, easy setup...espechially with the stock fenders.

Yeah, what he said. ^^^
You can run a 245.35, but not have many choices and spend more $$$. Also, I wouldn't stagger it, as there wouldn't be much to gain without a wider wheel in the back and you'd lose the ability to rotate.

245/35/18 is the size you should go with as it's the best match to the stock diameter.

offset? You can really not answer any of your questions without the know how of the offset.
Most likely you will be buying a set that will fit your e36 just fine, but then again there are those who post up saying i have an offset of et20... will it fit my e36? NO
18x8.5 will work with 225/40/18-255/35/18 it is a personal decision. I personally like getting as much rubber on the ground as i can. Also look at your offsets and camber angle to figure out how they will fit.

255/35/18 :D
An Aggressive Fender Roll and an offset of 38-40 to hit the sweet spot. You will get rubbing on the fender liner where it sags, and simply get the sags out and you will not rub. Hell I got 265s and get a slight rub only on my exhaust!

I run 245/35-18s on 18x8.5s. Look good, drive good, no rubbing.
