View Full Version : Time to sell my 95 M3, need help with valuation
Having a real problem valuing my M3. I bought it 6 years ago as a high miles 1995 M3. Since then I've done all the work (except inspections) myself.
The car is a Boston Green 95 M3. It's got 176,000 miles. The engine, drivetrain, suspension are in great shape and I can personally vouch for that. The body and interior could use lots of work though. Needs new floormats, probably window regulators, seats are getting worn, passenger door panel is loose, the front bumper could stand to be replaced.
I'm thinking I could sell for somewhere around $8,000-ish but I've stopped monitoring all things BMW so I'm really out of touch. Should I just try to sell it as a track car conversion candidate? Is my value too high? Thanks for your thoughts.

I'd say you're about right.

Yeah, you're right. It's hard to sell a car with that many miles, though. People buy miles, not a car.

Tried that, but my experience with them has always been that [Edmunds/KBB/Arlington Tax assessors] doesn't quite have an accurate pulse on people's valuations of a car. Thanks though.

That doesn't sound like too bad of a price.
Check kbb and do a quick browse of the local car site (i.e. autotrader, craigslist) to see the going price.
8k would be a steal here in the NW. The interior will knock it down a bit as it's expensive to do the leather.
Just had to redo my passenger seat's leather cause of a break in of my car and it's running over 1k to reupholster it.

Shoot post that car with pics in FLA. As long as theres no rust you'll get a thousand hits no matter what condition theres a million and one tracks out here not to mention everyday street warriors looking for projects. I'd say Jax,Tampa,Miami would be a good start. Make sure you have pics though ;)

I would give it a $150-300 detail. It's amazing with pro detailers can do to cars interior & exterior. It might not sell for more but it will sell faster. $8k will sell relatively fast here in CA if you can emphasize the maint records & up-to-date care.
Get some good digital pics and advertise on the west coast for sure.

Apparently, there are a million kids with "just enough over 8k" that they will be pounding down your door. Wrecked m3's go for 5-6k on ebay. Check ebay too!
Also note: there will be non-e36 m3 owners telling you "nah...the car's not worth X amount" in an effort to lower your price. Edmunds and kbb.com valuations are off. Use nada.com for a real $. (disclaimer: here on the west coast).
Thanks all. Might be broadening my scope to nationwide based on these comments.
Getting the detail is a good idea. Think I'll be doing that too.

I don't think that you will have too hard of a time selling it because you seem like your realistic about what the car is really worth...unlike some sellers who think there stuff is gold plated just because they still own it.:rolleyes

For the leather use Leatherique. Search the show & shine forum...that stuff can restore your leather to new-link for <$50. You might not even want to sell the car after that stuff. :buttrock
