How do I know if my tires are bad?

Should I use the penny and look for the top of Lincoln's head or is there a proper way?

you have "tread bars"

they run across the tire... when your tread is even with the treadbars, the tires are officially done...

however, you can still drive on them... they will just suck in the rain, the rubber is a little harder as well... if you see cords, they are def shot...

The left tire, see how the rubber that runs across it is even with the tread? But you could still use that tire a little longer... it's up to you...
